What stage of start-up does the notebook shut down immediately?
Is it when the notebook first starts, or during the loading of the operating system?
If it's "yes" to my first question, your battery may be flat and needs a charge (easy solution) OR there's a short-circuit somewhere and you'll need to return it to someone to have a look more closely. The DV6000z series is fairly recent laptop, so should be covered under warranty.
look up what you have in the startup files, alot of stuf you download puts thier product in the startup and it will take longer for your pc to turn them on and off:
Goto start menu and type in:
goto start up and turn off anything that you do not need to run at start up....becareful that you do not turn off key components to your system...just look for software you have downloaded...this will help speed up your start up and shutdown....
There are only few things which we can do if the Laptop doesnt start of shuts down at initial stage. We need to clearly understand the various stages which the system goes through while booting. And based on the stage at which the system shuts down we can analyse if there is an issue with HW or OS. If the system turns off as soon as you switches it on, This could be due to failure in post.. You may have to flash the bios and give a check to the hardware.
If it just starts the cmos and then turns off, think about any hardware which you might have attached to the laptop, remove them and then try, still if it turns off then it could be due to a major hardware detection error, which could also be due to a chipset malfunctioning on the motherboard.
If it runs till loding the OS and then turns off, we have to check the OS Boot files which could be corrupt or lost. I would advice you to take your laptop for a Hardware Check.
downloads are either being stopped by a firewall or your system cannot update what it needs to because your missing other updates. if you dont have all required updates some others will not install.try automatic updates.download all critical and recommended updates.
Hello! This is a tough one. I've seen this recently and had to just press and hold the power button to shut down. Not good!
I'm assuming you're using Windows of some sort since it shows "Stage 3 of 3" when it does updates during shut down.
What has happened is you downloaded some sort of "fix" from Microsoft
and it's getting stuck while trying to install. I've had this happen
and have never found a good solution for it.
1. Turn you computer off. 2. Turn your computer on 3. As soon as the power comes on, start pressing F8 repeatedly. 4. When you get a black and white menu, use your arrow keys to move up and down, select "Last Known Good Configuration" and press enter.
What the solution I've provided does is revert your computers software to a point in the past, hopefully just before you received the screwy update.
From what you've described, it sounds like you are clicking the Standby button, instead of the actual shutdown option.
On the Start button, you will see (from left to right);
Left: Start Search
Clicking the arrow will show you the Shutdown menu option;
