Question about Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

Windows Won't start

I tried to start my computer and a black screen comes up that say "We apologize for the inconvenience..." and so on it then has a list of option to start the computer with. Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/ Networking, Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt, Last Known Config. and Start Windows Normally.
I have tried every option and nothing works. All the Safe Modes start to list a bunch of stuff and freezes and the other two try to start windows but eventually brings me back to the same screen. Is there anyhting I can do to fix it besides taking it to the shop?

Hey,

You can fix this problem by installing windows again from the windows installation cd or from the recovery media that came with the computer.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

Now that PC works in Safe mode i suggest you to run the Disk Check.

Step1: Double click on My computer and then right click on C drive.
Step2: Choose properties and then click on tools option.
Step3: Click on the Check Now tab listed under Error Checking.
Step4: Select both the options under "Check Disk Option" then click on start.
Step5: It will prompt you to restart your computer.
Step6: The Disk Check gets initiated as soon as you your computer starts rebooting.
Step7: Allow it to finish.

Hope this helps.

Are you able to successfully enter Safe Mode? Are you getting a brief blue screen before the computer restarts?

A possible solution (if you can't get into Safe Mode to further diagnose the issue) is to repair the Windows installation with a Windows XP Home CD. If you know someone with such a disk you can use that with the product key that should be on a sticker on the back of your computer. Otherwise, HP should be able to send you an XP CD since you have an authorized copy of Windows on your computer.

You need to do a recovery using the recovery console. There is an option during startup, if you are running XP or later, to press F11 for emergency recovery.

Press F11 and choose the option to recover and backup.

This will backup all files and programs currently installed on your computer.

After the recovery process finishes, you will have to go through the process of setting up your computer, like you did when you first bought it.

After you are all setup again, it is a good idea to create recovery disks under the 'Start' menu, 'Recovery' option.
