While watching a dvd, our picture went black. We still had audio, but we no longer have any picture. Turned TV off and tried again, still same problem. Audio on all "video" including cable, just no picture.

You haven't mentioned about whether there is picture or not. If picture too is absent, the fault is with its main power regulator board. If picture is present; only the audio is absent, the fault is with it audio output board. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. This unit should still be under warranty and should be taken in for warranty service. Any attempt to access the interior will void the warranty. It is important that a complete description of the problem like you entered here be taken along when you bring the set in for service. This will insure that the servicer be able to reproduce the problem and resolve it.
From your description (and as a servicer), I would be looking for a component that is heat sensitive. These types of problems are fairly easy to locate and resolve.
Please take this in for warranty service and update this when you find out the details.
Make sure you match the color coded from the DVD player to the tv set. Yellow is video, Red is right audio, and white is left audio. Or you can do component, which will give you best picture. Component has five ends on it. There is a red, green blue for the video, and red and white for the audio.
Hi Bob. The first Board to cause this problen is the Main bd. The next bd to cause this is the T-Con bd which is mounted on the Panel. Since you saw horizontal lines and that you have text on the screen and are missing audio from the tv means that the Main bd has gone bad. Have a trained Samsung tech service your tv. Call 1-8020-Samsung as they can direct you to a Qualified tech in your area.
I had a problem with a Samsung 46 inch LCD and it had audio and dim light but no picture and found out that the logic board toward the top (inside tv) was bad and was no longer available and the only way to fix it was to get the entire display panel (the logic board came with it) It was not costwise to repair. Hope this helps.
