Re: Battery stopped working
Test your charger, the battery light blinking and the computer not starting up indicates not enough power to start up or not pluged into ac power, check the power adapter or charger. I suspect the battery is fine.

I would take note of the message you are getting and buy a new battery. I believe the red flashing lights mean that one or more of the cells in the battery are dying, and it's best not to turn off alarm lights like these. Did the battery hold charge for a longer period than one hour before you started to see the flashing light warning?
I had the same problem with a D620 at work. The laptop worked fine but the lights kept flashing on the front. I tried a few different things but it ended up being a bad battery. If the battery is less than a year old Dell will replace for free. Otherwise, you'll have to purchase a new battery.
The battery light flashing RED/AMber is an indication of a failed battery.
Portable batteries have a life expectancy of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles. (roughly 18 months under normal use) After that, the charge life starts to drop off and eventually it will not hold a charge. Because of this, the battery is considered a consumable item and is only warranted for one year from the manufacturer.
Since all the systems listed in the post are D610's (4 to 5 years old) it is not surprising that the batteries are failing.
Dropped Puck, if you replace the battery and a new battery doesn't charge/run the system, then the charging circuit on the MB is failed.
