Drum brakes don't have calipers - they have wheel cylinders and a backing plate. Do you want to replace it all with original parts, or do you want to convert drum brakes to disk brakes?

A conversion will be very expensive, and might not give you the results you expect. A brake system needs to be thought out carefully to work out all the details before you begin. Like... your proportioning valve will need to be changed, and the master cylinder will probably need to be changed. Then you have to find suitable calipers that can be mounted on your axle.

If you're looking to just replace what's there on a drum brake axle, then... remove the brake shoes exactly as if you were doing an ordinary brake job. The wheel cylinder will be held in place by two bolts from the other side of the backing plate, but you'd better disconnect the brake line FIRST.

If it's very rusty in there, expect a lot of trouble getting things apart. You may end up replacing brake lines, too.

1994 Chevy Cavalier front right brake is locking up every time you step on brake . I already changed that caliber and it is still doing it

MOST OF THE TIME WHEN A CALIBER LOCKS UP: IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF THE CALIBER BEING BAD. THE CAUSE IS THE RUBBER BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE CALIBER IS BAD INSIDE OF THE RUBBER HOSE. ONCE YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL YOU PUSH FLUID INTO THE CALIBER ONCE YOU RELEASE THE PEDAL THE FLUID DOES NOT ALL RETURN TO THE MASTER CYL. THE HOSE IS OLD AND THE RUBBER IS BUSTED INSIDE OF THE HOSE AND THE FLUID IS STAYING INSIDE OF HOSE AND HOLDING PRESSURE ON THE CALIBER. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME AND NEEDLESS TO SAY IT COST ME AROUND $500.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED AFTER I REPLACED CALIBER, ROTOR AND BRAKES.

How to change 2001 crown victoria brake pads

Jack up car, remove the wheels, take out the two retaing bolts on the brake caliber, slide caliber up off brake disc, remove old brake pad, use a C-Clamp or big pair of Channel locks to compress the piston in to the brake caliber, Insert new brake pads onto caliber, slide brake caliber back over brake disc, reinstall the 2 retaining bolts. put tire back on. Repeat this till you have replaced all pads that you are going to change. ***Caution.. Before putting the car in gear, crank it up and pump the brake pedal till you have a firm brake pedal. If you fell to do this you will have no brakes due to the pistons on the calibers are compressed and are not seated on the discs.

Brake light comes on, add brake fluid. what is the cause?

One of the reasons is because you have a leak somewhere. Try following your brake lines starting from your brake power booster and work your way back making sure all of your connections are dry and tight. Another place to look is in on your caliber piston or if you have rear drum brakes, take off your drum and look at your brake boosters. Both have rubber seals and can leak. If all is good then look into your power brake booster. Hope this helps!

How do I remove rear brake rotor? I need to replace the mount for brake caliper.

they can be such a pain because they get stuck on if you can get to the adjuster through a small hole in either the front or back of the drum adjust it so the brake shoes are not making contact then tap the drum with a hammer and pull it off you may have to prie at it with a tire tool i used two of them and worked it off the pads it gets stuck baddly on the center axle.If you don`t mean drum brakes then the brake caliber has two bolts at the back that need loosened up as far as possible and then the caliber will come off bylifting it off you may have to gently prie it up off there next is the center cap remove that and then cotter pin there should be a large bolt to remove take it off be carefull of barrings then the disk should come off. Hope this helped.

Rear drum brake caliber

You don't have calipers in drum brakes. you have wheel cylinders that activate the brakes when pedal is pressed. The brake cylinder is located at the top of the brake backing plate on the rear wheel. the brake line is screwed to it on the outside and two small bolt hold it in place. remove your brake springs, shoes etc., then remove the brake line and bolts. Before removing the brake line and bolts spray them with WD40 or something similar to loosen the rust around the fittings.

How do you take the drum off the rear tire to change brake shoes

You should see 2 holes that will take an 8mm bolt. Thread 2 bolts in and keep turning them in evenly, drum should come out as you turn in. Make sure emergency brake not holding you up, and if so, back off adjustment. If shoes too tight, you'll have to use small tool or screwdriver & lift adjuster lever up through hole and back off adjuster.

REAR BRAKES

i think your aware of how to change the brakes if im right and your problem is the rusted drum doesnt want to come off the only way to get the old drum off is to remove adjuster plug from behind drum dustshield and adjust the shoes so that there not even close to the braking area of the drum then try and wiggle the drum off of the assembly if it is not coming off then you need to use the old nylon hammer on the drum and i mean you must hit the drum from side to side trying by hand to wiggle the drum off its a tight fit and you need to strike the drum on the face not on the fins not wanting to damage with persistance and care and patience you will eventually be able to remove the drum to service brakes take care and good luck with it
