    when I go into menu I've been selecting scan channels and thats the only option. It seems like it is doing it but it doesn't solve the problem and there aren't any other options?

    There must be another step we're missing.

    my cable is going directly into the back of my apex tv, i can't get any channels above 13 when using my universal remote. I go into menu and it gives me four options. System, Tuner, Timer and one other one and when I hit enter for any of them is simply shows scan off and when I turn scan on it seems like its doing what it needs to but it doesn't solve the problem. It seems like it might be an issue with the universal remote not being able to do some of the functions or is it a parental control issue? It works fine to changes channels in between channels 2-13 so I'm not sure what the issue is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The reason you can only select channels up to 13 is that the Apex TV is in Antenna Mode (Std) meant for the old aerials on the roof. Since you have cable TV, you would need to go to the MENU, press the channel up/down key and go through all the selections till you find AIR/CABLE or one where you can set it from STD to CABLE. In some instances, you may need to select HRC or IRC depending on your cable provider.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    If you could post back the exact model number of the Apex TV, then more specific procedures could be posted. Still, in most Apex TVs, procedures would be:

    • do not use the universal remote;

    • use the front panel buttons;

    • press the MENU until TUNER is highlighted (in red);

    • press either VOLUME UP/DOWN to open the TUNER sub-menu;

    • press either the CHANNEL UP/DOWN to go to ANTENNA;

    • press either VOLUME UP/DOWN to change to CABLE;

    • press the MENU to return to the main menu;

    • press the MENU until TUNER is highlighted (in red);

    • press either VOLUME UP/DOWN to open the TUNER sub-menu;

    • press either the CHANNEL UP/DOWN to go to AUTO PROGRAM;

    • press the VOLUME UP to start scanning the cable channels;

    • press the VOLUME DOWN to end cable channel search;

    • press the MENU till normal display is shown.
    Incidentally, in some models the role of the VOLUME and CHANNEL are reversed.

    Cheers.

This problem typically occurs when the TV is set to the "antenna" position. Check your TV for an antenna/cable switch and change it to the "cable" position. Newer TV's may have an on-screen display menu that you can switch to the "cable" option.

Hi

You can set the channels through "Automatic Tuning" via a "menu" or "program" button on the remote . Once activated, the TV will then scan through the full range of TV frequencies finding all the available channels.

Please revert for any clarifications.

Thanks

Go in to menu.
Make sure that cable is selected instead of ant.
Then Choose Scan channels, or auto program.

universal controls dont work well with this tvs to change channels you have to go up or down you cant select a channel because of the button on the original control it has to be put in how many digits you want the best thing is to order a new one

I have Sony PictureTel TV but I cant watch more than 13 programs. Remote controler is original and I still cant go up to 13 chanels... :-(

If you have the Sony remote go into the customer menu and select either setup or the part that determines if you have the set in the AIR or CABLE band.

In the air band the set is only going to get the first 2-13 channels.

Once you find it use the remote to select cable or CATV--(same thing).

Once it shows you are in the CATV mode(I presume you have cable etc) if you still do not get any channels above 13 look for the AUTOPROGRAM FEATURE and engage it with the remote==the set will scan thru and pick up all the available channels.

I can't get channels bwyond 13 and remote is gone so I can't reprogram for other channels. Can this be done withour the remote?

hopefully you have a menu button on your TV, if so you should be able to access auto program (you might have to search to find the auto search)but before you auto program make sure you set your TV to a cable setting then auto program. If you do not have a menu button on the TV, you could also try buying a universal remote. If you don't want to do that you could always use a VCR, just set your TV on channel 3 and do a auto program on the VCR ,using the VCR remote you should be able to tune in the channels your missing through the VCR.

Programming Channels

Your TV is likely set for "AIR" tuning rather than "CABLE" mode. In this case channels above 13 don't tune correctly. The tuning mode is adjusted through the setup menu (it's been too long since I've seen one of these to remember exactly how the menu looks). Once you set the tuning mode for cable, all the available channels should come in properly.

But you've said you have satellite, so you should have a satellite receiver connected to your TV, and you'd be changing channels there rather than on the TV. Your TV would be staying on channel 3 or 4 (if using the satellite antenna output connection), or on the A/V input you have the satellite connected to (if using the direct A/V outputs). Am I missing something about your system?

If you are using a cable box, go into the general settings on cable box, use cable remote. Go to "viewer power on", and you can chose what channel you want the tv to turn on to .

Can not get all my cable stations

I will asume that you are not getting above channel 13. In that case you need to go into your menu of the tv and find the auto program area to program in your cable channels. You will also need to put the tv in cable mode as well. It will be in that same section of the tv.

My LXI TV won't allow me to get any channels above 13 after doing the auto scan for channels. I am using DirectTV.

The only way to fix the problem is to hook your TV to a standard cable hookup and go through the "auto memo" scan process. The auto scan progarm then automatically sets itself to the CATV mode, rather than the standard mode, so channels above 13 can be received after disconnecting and reconnecting to a DirectTV, satellite antenna.

Try connecting the cable directly to the tv rather than through the VCR.
