Depending on how much you use the bike. you may have to replace or re-aline the gear cable that runs through the bike.

What is a decent replacement rear derailleur for a Mongoose 26" Ledge 2.1 Mountain Bike?

Get the kind that has a lever shift instead of the grip shifter. The plastic part that holds the spring breaks easily. The lever shifter has been going strong on my bike for 6 years without a problem

It is hard to tell via the Internet. I suggest that you take it to a bike shop. They will get it shifting smooth, and, if not tell you what is wrong.

Mongoose hill toper mountain bike how to adjust the gears

Use this link for instructions. It is best if you have your bike on a bike stand. If you don't have a bike stand then you can put it upside down with a towel under it. Make sure that none of the wires are being pinched while either in the stand or while upside down.

On my ROAD bike could a Sram/Truvati XX or XO (crankset 42/28-cassette11/36) work smoothly with Sram red doubletap Thank you.

To use Sram Red Shifters with such a wide range rear cassette requires a Sram 10-speed MTB rear derailleur such as an XX or X.0, it will work without problems with your red shifter.

Because it is a road bike, i suggest leaving the road crankset and front derailleur in place. If you need low gearing I suggest a compact front crankset.

If you need to use a mtb crankset, attept to use the road front derailluer with it.

The shifter will not move into the # 3 range on the front derailluer, problem is in the shift lever

Check the limit screws. It is likely that the limit screw is adjusted to keep the movement limited to the first two chainrings. If that is not the problem, alignment or damage may be the source.

Need pulleys for my TD One derailleur

There are no pulleys on the front derailleur. Only the Rear derailleur has pulleys.

The Front derailleur consists of two plates that work the front gears (chainrings)

The Rear derailleur consists of a long arm with 2 pulleys to wrap the chain while shifting the rear gears (cassette).

Pulleys range from $10- a pair to $75-. Your local bike shop should have a suitable replacement set of pulleys, depending on the model of your derailleur it is sometimes less expensive to just replace the whole unit.

There are a couple of possible problems. You can try backing off the cable tension a little bit at the shifter and running back and forth through the gears adjusting as you go till it hits 2nd coming down. You can also try backing off the High limit screw on the derailleur. This will allow the shift to start a little farther from the bike hopefully hit 2nd. Hope this helps.

Deraileur adjustment/tuning

Yeah you will run into that at some bike shops. When they see older components like that, they often refuse to adjust them for fear of breakage and liability. Try a different bike shop if you can, or if you are confident in your mechanical abilities, try it yourself, instructions here:

Good luck.
