My ps3 froze and it won't read games but it reads movies
I was playing Burnout Paradise and then the game froze. After that I had to shut off the system manually because it wouldn't get out like most people say. I turn the system back on and I put in a game and it wouldn't get pass the company names. Later it just didn't read the games at all. Soon after I tried a movie and I saw the whole thing. Then I tried putting the game again and it just wouldn't work. The only thing that plays is my Killzone 2 demo which is a game but it works.

It's a Sony
defect with the blu-ray lasers. They only last 1-3 years with average
use. If your PS3 is less than a year old and you still have the
original receipt Sony will repair the problem for free. Otherwise
they're going to charge you $150 for the repair. You can reach them at:
Unless you have a technical background in
electronics there's nothing I would suggest doing. A firmware update
and or CD /DVD cleaner disk will do nothing for your problem. I've
fixed more than 100 PS3's with this exact problem so I know exactly
what I'm talking about.

It sounds like there's an error with the laser that reads blu ray media as PS3 games and blu ray movies are both stored on blu ray disks which is read by a different type of laser then a dvd is read by. There's nothing you could do to fix that on your own, the only fix I've heard of is sending it in to Sony.
Hi there, Most PS3 systems end up doing this due to an over heating of the laser lens. Let me explain: The laser lens in the PS3 is made to read mainly Blue Ray games. The movies need to be read faster than the game discs which causes it to work harder thus the problem arising. Sometimes, your lucky enough for this to only be a dirty lens problem due to rental movies which are most of the time, if not always, dirty. Have you tried a lens cleaner kit?
This is the CD-ROM with a small brush on it to clean your laser lens head.
This problem has happened to me in the past and this solved the problem.
It is a common problem for any lens reading console.
Here's what you do send it to Sony and wait a year to get it back that's if your still under warranty which is about a year or..........go to staples and ask for a DVD or blue ray disk cleaner to put into your ps3 system a blue ray cleaner would be better but a DVD cleaner could work. this is mostly caused by putting dirty disks into your ps3 system the blu ray laser is probley just dirty nothing to worry about ps. have you tried out burnout paradise and midnight club LA they are awesome you should check them out and for some good reviews of ps3 and xbox 360 games you can go to rawgamplay.com
