Question about Kenmore 62602 Electric Dryer

90 series dryer won't stay on

I have the kenmore 90 series dryer and it only runs for 2-3 seconds before it shuts off. I can restart it but it always shuts off after a few seconds. The exhaust vent is clear and the lint screen is also clear. Is it the heat sensor that is shutting it off?

I tried pushing on the door but that didn't keep the dryer on. There is now a burning smell when I "run" it for tose few seconds.

The heat sensor only controls the heating part of the dryer, not the motor.

The problem sounds like a door switch problem. Try pressing in on the door to see if the dryer continues to run or shut's off (I am assuming the 2-3 seconds you mention is after you have released the start button.).

UNplug the dryer, pull it out from the wall, and remove the service panel. Use a flashlight and look around for signs of anything having burned, and smell around to see if you can identify what might be burning if you can not visually see any burning.

If you plug the unit back in while your back there, have someone start the dryer and see if you can see what might be the problem.

I am suspect the motor may be failing, but it's hard to see what's happening through these teeny-tiny little wires.

Reply back what you seeing and we can help you further.

Kenmore 800 dryer shuts down after running down to 40 minutes on the timer. When I restart it at that point it runs for about 30 seconds and shuts down. If I turn the timer back to 90 minutes it runs down...

Sounds like you may have a bad motor. If the motor is overheating it will shut down on its overload.

If its a shorted contact in the timer you could mark the spot where it stops and restart it again. It should stop exactly at that point.

Have a 90 series kenmore dryer, won't always run. replaced the motor about 6 months ago, and now it will sometimes run, sometimes not. It gets hot, and will run for a bit then shut down, then start up...

If the timer is not advancing but is ticking that could be the problem. A dryer achieves a set temperature and stays there for a certain amount of time during a cycle. If the time never changes it may just keep heating up until the heat sensor shuts it down. If it is starting and shutting down its likely still related to the heat sensor.

okay, you have a bad motor, this motor is caused by bad ventillation, instead of your lint going outside it is getting on your motor. i am sure your dryer was taking a long time to dry.

replace the motor and you will be fine.

Kenmore Dryer 90 Series will start but suddenly stop...

Hello , Sounds like your motor is over heating , it will run until the sensor shuts it down from getting to hot , it is most likley because the motor is covered in lint and needs cleaned. Hope that helps.
