INever mind, i see you have to adjust to level and adjust the vials to level.

Sounds like you figured this out on your own. I calibrate my own DW073 regularly without any fancy gadgets. I use the calibration check procedure in which the unit is placed about midway between fixed objects 100' apart.

These have a front and back and sides, so first you mark where the laser hits facing front to back at your targets. Then turn it 180 deg. relevel and resite. If the difference between the new and old marks is not the same then I turn the adjuster to halve the inconsistency and once that is accomplished, tweek the adjusting screw at the end of the level vial. (Because if you have adjusted more than the tiniest bit, the bubble will no longer display as level. So having established level, or closer to it, the adjustment here is actually to bring the relevant bubble vial back to level rather than assume they are level and adjust the physical beam mechanism (unlike the old physical sight levels where you adjusted the actual optics -- a little more like adjusting a rifle scope). Then you repeat for the side to side vial.

Anyway sounds like you are set so I posted this for anyone who happens to find this thread and is looking to field calibrate their DW073, e.g. don't have time or money to get it done in some shop.

I also wanted to post an add on question. Did you figure out how to adjust the "cone error", i.e. the accuracy of alignment of the twin lasers. They appear to have allen set screws that lock their adjustment, and maybe they are then reaimed by using a slotted screwdriver on the brass ring surrounding the laser. Maybe these are made eccentrically or slightly beveled so turning the laser reaims.

So far, my cone has stayed within the specs of 3/32" at 25' in the manual. But I'm seeing two lines at maybe 150' out. Probably that is close enough for gvmt. work, and I may find the adjusment so sensitive that I can't really get it any closer. But I'd at least be interested to know the method for adjusting the cone error.

Instruments aren't typically designed for adjusting cone error. Tolerance should be less that 10 arc seconds at 100 ft. I normally replace the spidel assembly or core module if cone error gets worse than what you are seeing. You can some times adjust the prism to remove cone error on certain types of lasers. It isnt recommended or acknowledged in any service manuals I've seen.

You'd have to replace the prism. (core assy). If they get a bad cone error it's usually cheaper to replace the entire unit. That is a great laser. That is one of the only things that isn't easily fixed on that unit or any unit. Cone errors are normally fixed with replacing the spindle assy or core module. There aren't many lasers that allow an adjustment for that.

My dw071 spins but will not light up

The laser diode can be dead or one of the very thin wires on the laserdiodeunit can be broken

Because of the callibration of the laser and more small underlying defects in assembly and disassembly of the laser block and the x and y axis control is to abandon self-repair.

Rotary laser stopped responding. No light at turn on. Batteries good. Got wet in rain last summer. Circuitboard? How to fix?

you are going ot need to take it apart and see where it is corroded. there is most likely corrosion around the power supply to the laser itself.

Need to know how to calibrate dw077 laser

Hold down the ( V ) button while powering the unit on. THe puts the unit in cal mode for the Y axis. Hold down the up button while powering on the unit, this puts it in cal mode for the X axis. that is as far as I have gotten.

No laser beam how to fix

I would check the batterys first and if they are good, generally there is no way for an end user to fix a laser. I have talked to DeWalt in the past about this and been advised not to open it up. you can try to reset the laser and see if it reboots, sometimes they are so far out they won't turn the laser on.

How do I calibrate my stanley laser level

to calibrate you need to have an area 75 to 100 feet in distance. place laser on tripod 20 feet from one end, take measurements on short and long end, then move laser to center of range and take measurements on both ends . the distance between both sets of marks should be within + or - 1/4 inch if not move level screw to move beam to center then center bubble
