Question about HP Compaq Presario V2403NR Notebook

1 Answer

Changed cooling fan in compaq v2403nr laptop. Now it won't bootup

It gives me a PXE-E61: MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM

All I did was remove battery, and cover. Had to disconnect 2 wires from a small board in front to remove cover and hard drive also came out. Doesn't sound like a major problem though. I did check boot order and it was OK. Wire were reconnected in correct order.

Was your cd drive detected in the BIOS? Take the laptop back apart and double check your connections.

Laptop won't start up

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Keeps saying boot failure along with Ethernet controller v1.06 and media failure, check cable

What you are describing is a hard drive issue, remove hardware and reseat it back in place sometimes this will restart the hard drive. If this fails have it tested.

PXE-E61 : Media test failure , check cable PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key don't have a boot disk

It sounds like your hard disk has gone, or not being recognized by the computer... Check if it seats well in it's place.
Unfortunately, laptop HDDs don't last long these days.

I have an emachines e620 and when i switch my computer on it says pxe-e61 media test failure, check cable and it also says pxe-mof exiting pxe rom operating system not found help would be great

Go into set-up and change the boot order to the hard drive you have your operating system on... then cd-rom. you may actually want to start with your cd-rom as it makes it easier when you are installing an operating system.

Sounds like it is trying to boot from network drive. Have you changed the bios boot order. If so, change it back to boot from hard drive first.

Not always the Hard drive, boot into the bios setup utility and de-select network bootfrom the boot options. If it tries to network boot first you will always get that failure.
