Fridge is not getting cold, items in freezer have started to thaw. The "humming" sounds more like a buzzing. I removed the cover from the rear of the unit and the noise is coming from the compressor and it is very hot. thanks

Exact same problem. Fridge is seven months old.

Eight months ago, Freezer thawed everything. Repair man relaced timer & thermastat. Five months after Fridge door fell off. For the past month; clicking noice then humming.

Now freezer thawed everything. Fridge is not working.

Honest Frigeration Repair guy. With out even looking at it knew it was a shot compresser.

Are you certain it is the compressor?

Special equipment and tools are required to change a compressor, especially one used for domestic refrigeration.

Reply back what is humming, and we can help you further. And, whether or not the refrigerator get's cold or not.

Sounds like the compressor has locked up.

Most sealed system refrigerators have a 5 year warranty for the compressor itself (does not include labor or ancillaries.).

If it's lees than 5 years, it might be worth it to get repaired. If greater than, get some estimates of cost to repair before you call anyone out. Just give them a "what if my compressor is out" scenario.

SOURCE: Have Amana refrig with bottom

See the post by lola77 with the same complaint. We have an Amana top/bottom freezer and are having the same problem and we've only had it 4 1/2 years. First service call available that the 1-800 number gave me was 3 days from now, which is ridiculous.

SOURCE: Maytag Performa Bottom Freezer refrigerator making weird noises

This can be due to low supply voltage, causing the compressor thermal overload to trip out. Therefore when this happens the compressor gets hot and it keeps trying to start but fails. It can also be a faulty starter relay, which is located in the conncetion box of the compressor and is very simple to replace.

SOURCE: Whirlpool top freezer refrigerator- compressor makes a loud noise

The compressor is that black casing you see at the bottom of your refrigerator - inside this sealed case is the motor assembly which stits on 3 or 4 springs that act like a cushion - you have a little gap at the bottom where the lubricating oil is present. Your springs have likely worn out and when the compressor shuts off the assembly is banging against the rigid casing make that loud "klonk" or bang noise. It IS normal for compressor to make some faint "tick-tick-tick...tick.....tick" when shutting off, but loud banging, bell sounds, etc, means the assembly is banging on the case from the inside - you can indeed live with the noise, your compressor will function normally, probably for months, or even years - it can also keep wearing out and one day the noise might get very loud (like a very high humming noise) - There is NOTHING that can be fixed, you either pay $400+ to change the compressor or buy a new refrigerator - If you DO replace a compressor usually the replacement will be noisier - Keep a thermostat inside your refrigerator at all time to make sure your compressor is still keeping your refrigerator and freezer cool.

SOURCE: Bad capacitor/relay or compressor?

that is most likely a relay. Does the unit get cold while running?

first thing to check is the timer, remove the bottom kick plate,on the left side you'll see a knob,if you can turn it by hand turn it slowly or use a screw driver and turn it until it clicks,it could be stuck in defrost,if the compressor runs then you need to change out the timer.if nothing happens turn the timer until it clicks again.now go in the rear of the machine, unplug the fridge, remove the bottom rear panel and you'll see the compressor, there's a start device on the compressor and they do fail.remove the clip and before you remove it look and see where it clips on to,so when you have to put it back on or replace the part you know where to clip it again.slide off the start device, shake it,if you hear a rattling noise like a piece is broke off inside it or if it smells burnt this is your problem, the part number is W10189190 and it's like 20 dollars.when you call your parts store, give them the model number off the fridge and give them the p number and they will make sure the part number i gave you is correct.now from what you are discribing it sounds like the compressor isn't running,is this correct?and the machine is getting warm.when you change out the start device and if the compressor still doesn't start then you have a bad compressor and most likely you'll need to change out the machine.let me know what you find

Makes a clicking noise and humming when starts up

If your unit is fixed with a high speed compressor and in case you are not using a votage stablizer when ever there is a fluctuation in voltage there could be a click noise from the compressor. Do not frequently open your fridge and slowly the noise will vanish. It tells you that the unit is functioning just like our heart making thud thum thud noise when it functions and nothing to be worried about. It is normal.

Amana/Maytag ACD2234HRS sometime not working

If your compressor is running with the noise you described, I would make sure the parts that were replace on compressor are working properly. Also use a amp meter and get a reading on amp draw while it is humming. Anything that is above normal readings for the compressor would indicate compressor is bad or the relay and starter are not working properly. I need a series number also like a number 15 before the model number, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Buzzing intermittent

It sounds like the ice maker. If you don't have the water hooked up, and the ice sensor bar is in the down position, the ice maker assembly will attempt to make ice continuously.
Solution is easy: raise the ice sensor bar until it clicks in the up position. It will lock in this position, and the ice maker will not cycle anymore.
