Estimated ink levels are incorrect

Ever since I started using Walgreens to refill the inks instead of buying from HP, the ink levels will not show up correctly. Color shows a question mark at the top and Black shows nothing, but printer keeps saying ink levels low

I refilled my ink cartridges at walgreens & now I am not only having a problem with the estimated ink levels but also having trouble with the color ink not flowing properly. I really don't want to hear about buying hp products because, let's face it, in these economic times this single mom needs to cut corners, too.

Please only respond if you know the answer to the actual question (No one needs a soapbox opinion regarding the quality of refilled cartridges; we all have our personal reasons for using refilled cartridges). For a black refilled cartridge on my c3180. The ink level does not show up correctly. Color is fine as it shows a green check mark; however, the black shows a question mark at the top of the estimated diagram which is blank. The question is: How to correct the estimated ink level on a HP C3180?

The simple solution is to buy the HP cartridges. Often times,.. MOST times, aftermarket ink cartridges and refill kits are an inferior product. The difference is not always noticeable right away, but almost always rears it's head in the end. This is usually due to the ink being of a different viscosity than the original ink. Which leads to sloppy prints, sensor errors, leaky or dead jets.
Personally I recommend everyone buy Laser printers. With prices where they are these days, there is no reason for anyone to buy an inkjet printer. Lasers will cost more up front, but are much cheaper per page and generally longer lasting.

Where can I find a diagram of the black ink cartridge so I can locate the proper place to re-ink it?

NOTE: If a refilled or re manufactured print cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another product, is installed the ink level indicator is inaccurate or unavailable.
  • Make sure that the product is turned on and connected to the computer.
  • Click Start and click Control Panel .
  • Double-click the Printer and Faxes folder.
  • Right-click the icon for the product and click Preferences .
  • Click the Services tab, and then click Service this Device .
  • The printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A graphic showing the estimated ink levels appears. The graphic shows both the color and black ink cartridge with the ink level indicated by the fill inside the cartridge diagram. Figure 1: Estimated ink levels - both cartridges lowc738e3b.gif

Just installed refilled black ink cartridge on hp

By using refilled cartridges you will always have this problem. Each cartridge has a chip that lets the printer know when it is full or empty. By pressing the ok button you may be able to clear this message. However, most of the time you can still be able to print and ignore the message.

I refilled the ink to my HP 8500 wireless with bulk ink designed for the printer and have done a full reset> But it still shows ink levels are low and keeps going through printhead cleaning non-stop....

Have you taken the well out and wiped the contacts of the well and the contacts of the printer with an alcohol wipe? I had that problem with a much older HP printer and I manually cleaned the contacts and that fixed my problem.

I have also never had much good luck buying the ink refill kits. You can usually find either generic or HP ink cartridges on eBay or any other online auction site MUCH cheaper than buying them retail. I would honestly go that route instead of fussing with refilling your existing cartridges.

How to reset the ink level for a HP 60 ink cartridge? I have just refilled a HP 60 black ink cartridge but can not find anything on how to reset the ink level. I would do the "3 ink cartridge" trick but I...

You cannot reset the ink level indicator for the HP 60 ink cartridge. It shouldn't matter anyway because the level is only estimated for "management purposes only" (see user manual) meaning to let you know when it's near time to order a new cartidge. I have tried cycling through 3 different cartridges to reset the ink level for the one I refilled but it didn't work. Refill and just ignore the ink level indicator. Also, it's a good idea to clean the print heads with the solvent in the refill kit before refilling to remove old ink and imrpove print quality.

My printer can't read the new ink level after refilling

The ink level indicator is only an estimate to give you an idea when it's time to buy a new cartridge. You cannot reset the ink level indicator so simply ignore it if you refill your cartridges. See pg 72 of the user manual which you can get here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01374711.pdf

How do you check ink levels

Introduction This describes how to check the estimated ink level in the cartridge. NOTE: Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low ink levels, keep a replacement ink cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. Ink cartridges do not need to be replaced until print quality becomes unacceptable. Checking ink levels Perform the following steps to check the estimated ink levels: NOTE: If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured print cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another printer, the ink level indicator will be inaccurate or unavailable.
    1. Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
      • Click Start and select HP Solution Center . Select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
      • In your printing application, click File , click Print , and click Properties . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
    2. The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink. Figure 1: Estimated ink levels

My Hp does not recognize my color cartridge?

Sometimes the color bleeds over. Did you wipe down the contacts and clean the heads? Also, most of the cartridges have low ink sensors in the. Even if you have them refilled, they will still show as low ink. The only solution is to buy the new ones.... $$$$$$.
