Question about Cherokee (REF) AM/FM Stereo with CD Player and Hands-Free Capability

Open Question

Fuel pump doesn't work

When I turn the ignition to ON position (not start it) the fuel pump doesn't make the noise and if it doesn't the car wouldn't start

But if the fuel pump makes the noise the car would start without a problem. Once it starts and I turn the car off and restart without a problem again. That first cold start for some reason is tough.

I changed the relay and the fuel pump already, something is causing fuel pump not to start each time. But once it starts it keeps going, no problem.

Turns over acts like it string to start just doesn't

Try pushing the automatic fuel shut off button located on the left side of the steering wheel or in the glove compartment If that doesnt work then you should make sure the fuel pump is pumping fuel by listening for it to power on when you turn your ignition key

Wants to turn over

Fuel pump? Listen for it to turn on when key is turned to on. May need to stand by the gas tank with the cap off. It should come on for a couple of seconds to pressurize the lines. If no noise, find the fuel pump relay under the hood and put your finger on it while someone turns key to on. You should hear it or feel it click. If not, need to check wiring in pump circuit. If it does click, but pump doesn't come on, check for power at the fuel pump connector at the gas tank. There should be power on the fuel pump wire when the engine is cranking. If not, again it's a problem in the wiring circuit. If it does have power and pump won't work, the pump has probably failed. The gas tank will have to be removed and pump replaced. Not recommended to buy after market pumps, spend the extra for genuine parts. It will save you grief.
If pump works and still a gas problem, check fuel pressure with a pressure gauge-should have around 40-50 psi. If good, check that fuel injectors are pulsing.
If not a gas problem, check for spark at the spark plug end of a plug wire. If no spark, ignition circuit will have to be diagnosed. Possibly a crank position sensor. Computer needs that sensor information to initiate spark.
Check for trouble codes from the engine computer.
Good luck.

Car wont start

replace fuel filter.listen for fuel pump operation with ignition switch on position for 3 seconds should hear fuel pump running should have humming or churling noise if so fuel pump working if hear no noise fuel pump faulty or could have blowed fuel pump fuse or bad relay.if fuel system okay problem could be ignition timing off due to worn broken timing belt.could have faulty ignition module.bad crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensor best to have vechicle code scan first before buying alot of new parts.could have bad ECM. many things will cause no start problems i.dont know model type vechicle.could have bad spark plugs wires. distributor cap and rotor could be bad.ignition coil could be bad.

Vehicle will not start, normally when ignition is in on position there is a whining noise for a few seconds, I wait until the whining stops and then start the vehicle. Now, when ignition is on on position...

Hi. The whining noise you hear is the fuel pump priming the fuel lines. If you don't hear the sound anymore then your fuel pump has stopped working. Check your fuses. Also look for a relay for the fuel pump. The relay will usually be in a large box under the hook that says fuse and relay panel or something similar. If the fuses and relay are working the the pump will probably need to be replaced.

Car won't start, error cc, Starter turns over, battery is strong, just doesn't ignite.

fuel issue, maybe fuel pump, turn key to on position and you should hear a noise coming from the tank, if you don't the pump, fuse, or relay is bad,.. 9 times out of 10 its the pump.if you do hear a noise then its probably a clogged fuel filter.

if fuel pump buzz is heard and car runs and when it doesnt run you cant hear the fuel pump try
turn ignition off wait 10 seconds
turn ignition to on position to (prime or hear pump buzz)
no buzz fuel pump not working check fuel pump relay(swap with another) and try again?
