Maytag Washer - Discoloration on Clothes

I have a toploading Maytag washer. For several washings I have had problems with blotches of discolorations that will take the color out or add a lighter white-gray discoloration. The blotches are permanent, they do not rinse out or wash out. This is particulary annoying because it ruins dark clothing such as jeans and dark tshirts.

If it was grease, why would I not see it on white fabrics, as a dark stain ?

I have the same problem.  Grease?  Are we sure about this?  I've had this problem in other washers as well, so it makes me worry that it could be something from the detergent?

Discoloration on clothes

I don't believe it is your machine as much as it is your water needs testing. You might have too hard of water. Possibly rust, calcium, fluoride, or chlorine. Your PH could be too high or too low and your water could be acidic or more likely alkaline. Alkaline water will definitely create anomalous water staining.

I have a new washer, less than three months old. It has been putting rust on my clothes. I bought this washer because I thought it was the old one. What could this be and how do I fix it?

It could be your water source, especially if you are on a well. It could also be coming from the water heater. They tend to rust over time and also collect dirt and sediment.

One quick test may reveal if it is the water heater.

Fill a large clear jug with smooth sides with water. First from the cold, then from the hot.

If you see discoloration from the hot water only, it is your water heater. This can often be solved by flushing the heater thoroughly at the drain until all discolored water is gone.

If you have discoloration from both sides, you may want to invest in a whole house water filter.

You probably have something stuck in the drain pump. You will have to remove the hoses from the pump to extract it.
I can not be more help without a model number. Maytag builds several styles of top load washers. They all access differently.

The belt keeps coming off my maytag washer mo. mah55flbww. tub bearing seem good motor seems ok

That is a tough one, especially since you indicate that the bearings are okay. The belt not wanting to stay on a Maytag Neptune washer usually does not bode well. It is usually an indication that the drum bearings are shot. Look for brown splatter on the back of the drum and the inside bottom of the washer. The presence of any brown discoloration is a pretty good indicator that the bearings are going. Anyway, hope this helped, sorry for your problem, and best wishes.

Clothes picking up residual dyes & bleach spots

I dont think the washing machine is designed to put bleach in??
Remember a washing machine is never really empty of water.
It holds about 1 litre of water in the tub after each cycle.
Thats the way they are designed.
The same as front loader.
I would put clothing in the tub to bleach, then rinse them in the tub with cold water ,then wash them?? cheers

Black mark on clothes after washed in Maytag top load washer.

Check and make sure the seal at the bottom of the washer is not wore out. Alot of times you will get grease from the bearins and drum assembly if this wears out.

No hot water for a Maytag topload washer

Turn the water off and disconnect the hot wat hose from the spigot and the machine. There should be a screen filter in one end. Check to see if the screen is clogged. If it is then replace it. If not then replace the water valve
