i have a lot of difficulty to get a correct driver for the integrated sound card of this motherboard. I tried all the drivers from the HP site, but none r working! It seems it is the AC97 Integrated ADI 1981B Audio, but even this is not working. I have BIOs 2.44 on this machine, and i can not find where to disable the integrated audio so i can install a PCI card.

Users running ASUS P5PE-VM on Windows 7 having difficulty looking for
compatible drivers, especially on graphic card and onboard sound card.
The graphic card is old NVIDIA GForce 3 TI (AGP) and the sound on-board
is SoundMax which is listed as SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio
(TCSUS_CH5) F5410AMR. The driver which comes with the motherboard will
not install the sound drivers because it doesn't recognize the OS
even though it listed the sound card but only Realtek and analog devices.Trying to resolve this problem using Compatibility mode doesn't do
the trick as there is no Vista compatible for GF3 driver. Windows 7
apparently won't recognize GF2 series and older ones. You will have to
upgrade the video card. Try using Windows Update. If it doesn't find the
driver online, then it means the driver is not supported by Win7. No
luck for NForce 3 motherboards either, or NF 1/2 motherboards.
Another workaround you can try is by installing NVIDIA's legacy
driver 66.93 which was reported doing good on GeForce 3 TI 200. You will
have to disable all directX hardware acceleration, but OpenGL works. It looks like upgrading is the last resort you can try after you try all
You can download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure you
select your model computer and the XP or VistaWindows version of the drivers you require and install
them. Click on this linkto download the drivers: - http://welcome.hp.com/country/au/en/cs/support.html
While many HP boards have audio built in, on some the connections are on the motherboard itself. I own one myself & found it much easier to buy a $7.00 sound card from eBay, that included shipping to my front door.
You have to install the correct sound drivers.
It doesn't matter if the sound is integrated on the motherboard, or you have a separated sound card.
One the drivers are installed, you'll be able to enjoy the sound from your system

Windows XP or other operating systems, only provide generic or standard running drivers.
If you have On-Board sound, you,ll need to go to the manufacturers site, and download all the drivers relating to your motherboard. Also check that you have connected the sound-card and cables correctly. Or if your using a DVD Drive, that you have the lead to connect Drive To Motherboard. ** This is usually a 3 pin plug connector.
