This is the same charger that I have used for about two years with no problem. This just happened, no warning, did not get wet no impact damage. Suddenly, as if using alien equipment in attempting charge.
this charger came with the phone when new.
The problem was in the point of connection between the charger cord jack and the cell phone charger receptacle. By moving the jack within the connection I was able to resume charging. The connection may have become faulty as a result of heavy usage.

I had the same problem with my rival. I used a universal USB charger. It worked fine for a month or so and then stopped charging completely. I went to the Motorola website and downloaded the charging driver. I haven't had a problem since.
you can try to clean the charger port (but first make sure its not bent, or broken - the pins are really tiny and hard to see, so make sure)
But try cleaning the charge port on the phone and the charger with denatured (rubbing) alcohol, and a toothbrush -
Just make sure not to plug it in when you do this!
and clean both the charger and phone, make sure neither are bent
lastly, try a new charger!
that happens mostly with third party chargers..you may want to explore the option of charging your phone using the PC and a USB cable...you may be required to download a software or driver for it ..along with eh motorola phone tool
