My Garmin GPSmap276C has the same problem. It just stopped acquiring satellites a few days ago and I have no idea why. I have tried to get it to work in several wide open locations to no avail.

SOURCE: Trouble Acquiring Satellites

Thank you all for the help. I had already downloaded updates and it told me there weren't any more updates that the unit was current. The bugger just fought me all the way.

I tried the reset address over and over to no avail. Finally after it was completely charged, I set it by a window and left in turned on with the finding satellite or whatever it said on it, and went to bed. By the next morning it knew where I was!

SOURCE: having problems acquiring satellites

I know it sounds silly but sometimes when my Nuvi 350 does this, an hour or two in the freezer does the trick.

SOURCE: Garmin NUVI 650 acquiring satellites

  • Make Sure the GPS has a good, clear view of the sky. “Clear” does not need to be sunny. Overcast skies have no noticeable impact on GPS performance. But buildings and trees do. So take the GPS outside where you have the biggest sky view as you can.
  • Next, wait for the GPS to acquire a signal. If this is the first time you have used it, expect it to take up to 20 minutes to find a signal. Most often it will take less, but prepare for 20 minute. Now for an important step… Once it has found your location, let it continue to sit there for about 30 minutes.

SOURCE: i only get acquiring satellites

after you re set your nuvi, and the "acquiring satellites" is showing on screen: place the unit while on, flat, outside - I placed mine on the outside deck with open skies above! leave the unit in this position for no less than 45 minutes. This is the time the unit needs in order to "acquire" the satellites.
After this, my unit worked perfectly well.
Hope this helps.

I have Dish 322 receiver. Everything was fine; a week or so ago satellite 119 reception was spotty, now we can't get 119 at all. We get 110 but only about 34%. Sometimes the receiver will power itself off...

It looks like you have lost the signal for the 119 satellite from your dish. Are you getting an error message, either 002 or 015, saying the satellite signal has been lost or acquiring satellite signal? First, check the cables on the back of the receiver to make sure they are secure. You can also run a check switch test to see if there is a problem between your dish and receiver.

Press the Menu button on your remote. This will bring up the Main Menu on your TV screen. Input the numbers: 6 (System Setup), 1 (Installation), and 1 (Point Dish). On the right side of the Point Dish screen are 3 buttons. Select the Check Switch button. Within the 2 large boxes are satellite numbers and green or red boxes. Make a note of the satellite numbers (should be 119, 110), the trans, the device, and switch. Super dish and alternate should not be checked. Select the Test button on the bottom of the screen. If a box pops up with a warning about TV 2, select Yes. It will now run the check switch test. Let it complete the test. After completion, the screen will automatically go back to the Installation Summary screen. You may get a message stating that the Check Switch test has found fewer satellites than previously detected. If you get this message cancel out of each screen (do not save the results) till you are back to the TV screen and it is acquiring Satellite signal.

If you don't get that error message, see if the information on the Installation Summary has changed. Then select Done on the next 2 screens and cancel out of the others till you get the message, Acquiring Satellite Signal. After it finishes acquiring satellite signal and downloads the program guide, see if you are getting a picture - try different channels. If you still have problems, please email me at, ray.calo@dishnetwork.com. If you are still experiencing problems, we will need to send a technician to fix the problem.

My c340 stops at "locating satellites". I reset it

If your StreetPilot c300 or c500 series device is no longer acquiring satellites please read the article linked below to ensure that this is not being caused by something in your environment:

Why won't my unit acquire satellites?

If after reading the above article your unit is still having problems, please ensure that your unit's software is up to date. You can do this by using our WebUpdater® program.

If you have tried all of the above suggestions and your unit is still not acquiring satellites, you can perform a master reset by doing the following:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power.
  2. Touch and hold the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
  3. Power the unit ON and continue pressing the screen until a new message displays, "Do You Really Want To Erase All User Data?".
  4. Touch Yes and go through the set up again.
Take the unit outside and let it set with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites. If the unit still does not acquire satellites after this, please contact Garmin Product Support.

New Garmin 330 stuck on kansas

Take the unit outside and turn it on. Then select View Maps, at the top of the screen it will say either "Locating satellites" or "Acquiring Satellites". Once the garmin has locked onto the overhead satellites, then it will say "Ready to Navigate".

Locating Satellites take longer than Acquiring Satellites.

Aquiring satellites

Are you outside with a clear view of the sky? It should find satellites once the unit is turned on. Does it say "Looking for satellites" or "Acquiring satellites"?

If it is "looking for satellites" then it means that the unit have lost all data (time, date, location). If it is "acquiring satellites" then it have date and time, but not location.

Looking for satellites require a longer setup time (could be as much as 15 minutes). Acquiring satellites is much faster (not more than 2 minutes).

Date and time is updated from satellites once the unit gets a satellite lock.
