Those are retrace lines, the vertical section is supposed to blank them out through bias .
An electrolytic capacitor is most likely going bad. It's not a biggy, the TV won't blow up, but the lines will continue to get worse.

other wise it can also be the cause of
suspect it's 1 or a couple of bad capacitors in the vertical deflection circuit the caps are in the 400 series, c400,c401,c402, etc... check or replace c414,c418 & c417.
If you have an electronics background you should be able to find the defective ones with an ESR tester .
a answer of some body who solved it manually just read it
A thin horizontal black line appeared about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the screen. Shortly after that another thin line appeared beside the first one. I pulled the back off of the TV (many little screws) and started pushing connections around. The line would disappear every time I pushed on the connectors hooked to the Y board (the board on the top left side when looking at the back of the TV. The line would keep coming back, so I drilled a hole in the cover so I can put my finger through the hole and push on that connector when the lines come back. It has worked perfectly so far. If I knew how to add a picture to this comment I would. Hope this helps somebody.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

At best described, plasma repairs is challenging. Your described condition could indicate a number of possibilities. It could be as simple as noise in the video signal or in the A/V board. It could even be a loose connection or simply require changing ports/jacks. It using HDMI, try using a different one. Or worst a problem with the mainboard.

Two ways to initially address the problem:

  • DIY (do-it-yourself) repair. This would require familiarity with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM and a soldering iron. It would be to your advantage to have access to a Service Manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage measurements;
  • seek the services of a qualified professional for a repair quotation.
While it would be possible to effect your own repairs, there would be the above mentioned pre-requisites; otherwise, it would be guess work and unfortunately may lead to false diagnosis/parts replacement. A quote on the other hand would cost depending on the going rate within your location. The advantage is that you would have an idea of the possible cost of parts and service fee. This would be significant since this information factored in with the TV's age, downtime, efforts to have the TV repair would present you an evaluation of your options or even consider replacing the unit entirely.

If you are considering DIY, pls post back. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Try first using a different cable to connect.

If that does not work it is likey to be the Zsus card faulty, or a problem with the video chipset on digital board.

A LINE JUST APPEARED DOWN THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE LCD, IT IS BLUE, IT IS A MATSUI 42 INCH LCD ONLY 1 YEAR OLD. IT IS ONLY A THIN LINE BUT GOES FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN.

There is something that is wrong with your LCD panel. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole LCD panel which is very expensive ($500+) and time consuming (need to take whole TV apart).

Sky 42 inch plasma tv

hi all .ive had the same problem,a thick black line down screen.sometimes it flickers from top to bottom and other permantly in view.but i have solved it.forget your ic boards and taking apart tv.have you got either a ps3 or wii connected to tv.if so unplug power lead from socket and relocate in seperate socket.make sure the lead is completely free of any other leads and you might just find this works.i think the power lead creates some sort of frequency that the tv picks up .good luck hope it works

Hisense 42in plasma flashing blue/green pixels after 30 mins

Do a master reset
1. unplug the TV from the wall
2. remove the batteries from the remote
3. wait 24 hrs
4. plug TV into the wall socket
5. install batteries in remote
6. hold power on button for minimum 10 seconds
This was given to me by the Hisense service line and worked for my TV.
