Are the battery contacts clean and touching the battery? You may have to close the case to know. Is the battery right side up? As in any electronic device, the problem could be a loose connection. In quartz watches, the coil might be damaged and you can't necessarily see that. This isn't something that can be fully known without being looked at. Hope that helps.

I was given a skyhawk eco drive watch from my late fatherinlaw, its brand new but it has been in its case(box)in dark for a long time and doesn't work...how do I get it going???

An Eco drive citizen is powered by the sun. You should take the watch out in the sunlight or put under a lamp to charge it for at least 12 hours. Once it is running you need to wear it to keep it running, you should be able to take it off at night and it will continue to run once it is fully charged. if it does not hold a charge over night after being fully exposed to light for 24-48 hours you may need to send it to Citizen for service on the capacitor. thank you!

Watch will not wind and will not run or keep time. It appears to have over wound itself.

Not possible. The assumption that a watch is fully wound and then doesn't run is because the watch is over wound is invalid. The correct assumption is the watch has been fully wound and the watch has a problem. Could be anything. Automatic winding watches have a mainspring that slips or acts as a clutch when fully wound to avoid breaking from continuous winding.

My g shock is solar and it will go from fully charged to plinking on low and then the next day its back on showing high and all i have to do is hit receive and its back up and running. its about 3 years...

That sounds the same as car battery will do when it has a cell going bad. It's possible the battery has a defective segment, and will show a full charge for a while. It just doesn't have the capacity or amperage to run the watch properly. It could just need a reset on the Service Center equipment...or it could be a defective battery, even after only three years.

My kinetic purchased in 1995, started to not fully charge and show a full charge. It runs only a short time before stopping, this happened suddenly after years of perfect operation. The watch is in good...

It is a little old but should give many more years of service. I suggest that you have it cleaned, this should make all the difference.

Since these watches contain a battery it might also be a good idea to have a new one fitted.

Watch is fully wind up but doesn't run?

Several solutions:

Needs cleaning is the best possible reason.

Broken balance due to being dropped is second.

Watch stopped while in hospital and now, although running again, has the second hand moving in two second intervals

Some Seiko kinetic watches and other self charging watches do this when the battery is low. If it relies on you moving to keep it charged that may explain why it stopped in hospital. Try giving it a good shake and see if it starts moving smoothly again

Can't get new eco drive watch to start!

The Citizen Eco Drive watches use special recharchable batteries.
I started collecting a couple of watches and I noticed sometimes a jeweler replaces them with an ordinary battery. The watch will work and at the same time it will try to recharge this one until it explodes! In newer models they made it harder to use the non-rechargable ones by adding a special connector or clip to the rechargable battery types.
Okay, if you say your battery goes bad, or the watch does not run? It may have lost the charge over time. First thing to try is to leave it on the window sill so the dial is in the sun. It will start ticking, but please leave it out there for 3 days to a week. The seconds hand will tick irregularly in steps of one and two seconds, to show you it wants you to readjust the time, as it knows it has lost time. Adjust the time and it should run smoothly.
The seconds hand should run in single second steps, if it takes steps regularly, but every 3 seconds or so, it tries to tell you that its power level is going down. It will be able to continue for one or two days, but you should get it into the sun more often.
Charging the battery under a lamp is possible, however this heats up the watch and this may reduce battery life.
If you need to know more about the Eco Drive, look for detail tech manuals for all types here: http://www.citizenwatch.com/downloads/tech/tech.htm
Those are great watches as long as you remember it needs light to charge.
