Question about Gateway MX6447 Notebook

1 Answer

Not able to view a video

My laptop does not allow me to view videos very well. After I put the cd in the drive, it makes a ton of sound like it's doing something, but it just sounds like it rotating the cd in the drive. I have windows media player, and a few other programs that I know can play the video, and I am positive that the video CAN be played. However, it does not recognize the cd at all. Thanks for your help.

This sounds like the infamous video card has overheated problem. The only real fix is to repair/replace the video card and that means taking the laptop down to the motherboard in the base. Keep track of where all those different length screws go or you'll blow holes in the top of the laptop when you put it back together. There is a manual link on here and I tried to upload the dis-assembly manual but couldn't. I can post it to my website if interested

Installed 2 new 1GB memory modules in my laptop, now it won't boot up, no hard drive sound, screen remains blank. Have HP DV5020us Modules installed are DDR, 333MHz, PC2700

put the original memory back into the laptop and see if you get video, if you do then you know that the new memory isn't compatible.

If your still not getting video then try each original memory stick one at a time in each slot one at a time and turn on the laptop after each reseat.

After this take out the hard drive and dvd drive to make sure that those parts aren't causing the no video problem.

If after these steps you still can't get video then that means the motherboard is bad.

Depending on what your computer has for a drive, DVD or CD, makes the difference in the answer. However, you will be safe with either drive using CD-R, CD+W

You can find a replacement online. If you're in the US try The usually have dvd/dvdrw drives on sale for about $30. You might like the lightscribe option. This will allow you to etch labels on lightscribe CD/DVD's.
Let me know if you have any questions. /thanks.
