Chances are the hardware is damaged and will need to be replaced. This happens over time to eye sensors, and you can replace the eye in it but it's just cheaper to buy a new 10 dollar CD/DVD Burner/Reader from new egg.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Sonic record now program will not find cd drive

  1. Update your drive's firmware/drivers. Most companies regularly update their firmware and drivers. If you are unsure what model your burner is and its firmware, click here to find out.

  2. Enable DMA. Direct Memory Access enables better efficiency of data. For more info, check how to enable DMA.
  3. Your media. Check the following:
    • The disc is clean and unused.
    • The media is recommended by your burner's manufacturer or try a different brand, preferably a name brand, if you continue to have problems.
    • Make sure that media (-R/+R, -/+RW, dual-layer compatibility) is supported by the burner by checking burner's manual or manufacturer's website. This is especially true for some Blu-Ray burners which do not support CD-R/RW media.

  4. Lower the write speed of your burner.
  5. If your burner is external, make sure it is connected directly to the computer via USB/Firewire and not a hub or other other device like a sound card.
  6. Update to the latest PX Engine. The PX Engine improves compatibility with newer burners on the market.
  7. A reinstall of the burner's drivers may also help.
    • Windows XP: Go to My Computer and choose Properties.
    • Windows Vista: Go to Start --> Control Panel --> System and Maintenance --> Device Manager.
    • Click on the Hardware tab.
    • Select Device Manager
    • Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives, then select your burner and uninstall it by right -licking on it.
    • Reboot.

Problems burning a cd with Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7, I am on an HP notebook running XP

Try different software. I use CDBunerXP with no problems. It's free. Just don't install any extras (add-on programs) they include.

You should let it burn with no other activity during the process.

Using sonic record now...cannot recover used space on hard drive after burning video

Sonic usually has a temporary storage folder where it puts copies of what it is burning.

I think you will find that if you check the OPTIONS in sonic you will find a directory name and if you look in there you will find copies of the files it hasn't deleted.

Or you could just use the windows search option and when you see the folder with all the files delete them from there.

Hope this helps out

I purchased a Dell Computer back in 2004 which came with Sonic Digital Media Plus v7. My PC has Windows XP Operating System. A few days ago I decided to install Version 6.0 of Roxios Easy CD/DVD Burning...

Try uninstalling Roxio and the Sonic drives and run Fixit. Then reboot and install Roxio first then the Sonic driver.
If this doesn't work uninstall again as previously, install Roxio and check the CD/DVD if necessary run Fixit then install Sonic driver.

DVD's won't play in the dvd player

I had a problem when making back-up copies of my dvd movies. I was using the latest version of Nero and when I played them in my DVD Player the movie just jumped all over the place. It didn't play in order of chapters. I then tried DigitalMedia Plus V7 from Sonic that came with my laptop and they play just fine. If you are downloading stuff from the net that is in avi, divx, or xvid format your dvd player probably can't play those formats.
