FIn inside neptune md55 dryer came loose need to remove side pane

The fin on the Neptune Dryer has come loose and I need to remove the side panel on the dryer to replace the two screws that hold one of the three fins in place. It would be simple if I knew exactly how to remove the panel.

The past two weeks my dryer has this god awful rattle clinking noise in the lower left side while running.

  • Anonymous Apr 02, 2009

does anyone know how long the screw is that I would need to replace I need to get the parts today before I go home or the wife might not let me come home.

Thank you solution #2. You are awesome and explained things perfectly!

Same problem with loose fin, The directions provided here were excellent! Saved me a $125 service call.

  • Anonymous May 06, 2009

My problem was a rhythmic scraping noise while the dryer was on. Using solution #2 (worked like a charm), I found that one of these screws holding the fin had unscrewed most of the way out and was hitting the sides of the dryer as it went around. I'm sure glad it didn't snag any of the wires, etc in there. Using my 8mm socket I was able to tighten the screw back in (and while I was in there, make sure all the other screws were tight also!), put the front back on, and start up the dryer. Voila, no more noise! Thanks so much for the solution to my problem.

I had the same problem but it's the FRONT Panel you need to remove. Before you start, unplug the thing first. BTW I did the whole proceedure in 10 minutes using an electric screwdiver / philips bit and a socket set with an 8mm socket with my leg in a cast. You can do better, I'm confident!

Two 8mm hex head bolts hold each fin on the drum. They can be tightened. You need to open the dryer front since they bolt from the outside of the drum. To open the dryer front you first take the door off by removing the two philips head screws, then slightly lift the door and pull toward you (the door hinges have little hooks on the end that inserts into the slots (this little design keeps the door from falling off during removal and install-nice). Then remove the two philips screws on the other side of the door opening (opposite the door hinges). These screws hold two plastic brackets (be sure to see how they are aligned before you remove them so you know how they go back on.

Now the front frame panel looks like an "H" . Grab the top two arms of the 'H" and give a quick ****. The top arms of the 'H" will come loose. The bottom part is held by a couple of clips, just pull up and the front panel comes off.

You will be able to spin the drum until the hex bolts for the fin(s) in question are visable / reachable from the right side (just above the heater unit-hope you unplugged the dryer earlier). I tightened it using an 8 mm socket.

Now reverse your steps: put the front panel back on the bottom clips and snap the top "H" arms back in place. Reinstall the plastic clips / screws and then put the door back on.

Yeah for my DH! You take off the door and then remove the lower front panel. You now can access the fin screws - tighten all while they are there!!

Side note - tighten them ASAP - our's has been clanking for awhile and DH said the holes were starting to elongate.

One of my dryer fins fell off how to get it back on

Look inside the drum at the place where the fin was on the drum.
Do you see any screw holes now showing?
That will tell you that you need to take the machine all apart and re-fasten the fin on with some screws, unless the holes are stripped out in the fin itself, in which you will need to get a little bigger screws, or buy a new fin.
Oh yes, I have been using an epoxy cement in a tube that has 2 chambers, and this may help you.
I think it would work here, but will not be strong enough to glue the fin back on.
I sort of think it would stand the heat if you used it to help secure the screws into the fin.
Honestly, to me the new fin sounds " hard to get".
Be blessed.

Fin that tumbles clothing inside dryer coming loose, how can I tighten it?

These fins are usually screwed on from the outside of the drum. If you're up to it this is a simple but time consuming fix. Take the cabinet off the front of the dryer, the top will come off as well. be careful of the wires from the control console, they will stay attached to the dryer. Tighten the tumbler fins on the drum and then re-assemble the cabinet. Typically the screws you need to access are the same used for the door latch and hinges. They go back together easy ........

Yes - right where the front panel meets the top panel of the dryer on both sides there are two clips. Insert a screwdriver into the clips and push up on top panel. You'll see the screws that hold the fins on the dryer. Tighten these screws or replace. Good luck...

My neptune dryer has an interior 'fin' that is loose (mde5500ayw)

There are screws holding the fins on the outside of the drum. To get to them:
  • remove door
  • remove screws on the opposite side of the door screws (which would hold the door if it would open to the opposite side)
  • pull the top of the front panel, which was held by those screws outwards
  • remove the front panel. You'll see brackets holding the top of the dryer in place. Remove screws holding those brackets.
  • lift the top.
Good luck

Remove the 2 screws holding the door and the 2 screws on the other side of the door opening . Pull the front panel foreward and lift off . If still not enough room to reach under to tighten , remove the 2 screws (1 on each side , holding the top down , then lift top . DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE DOING ANY WORK .
