Question about Bose RC-18S Remote Control
I have a Bose 321 system which my husband installed many years ago. The remote control, up to a few days ago, has worked perfectly. TV turns on, Cable turns on, volume works ... however, the remote will not change the channels any more! The Cablevision remote will change the channels but not the volume, so I'm currently using both remotes.
What could have caused this problem to occur? Unfortunately, my husband died so I have no one to ask.
The blue communication light on the media center does light up when I try to program a channel, but nothing happens. I feel so LEGALLY BLONDE because I can't figure it out. HELP!

SOURCE: Bose 321 Remote not working
Pull off the front panel, be carefull there is a ribbon attached. Detach the ribbon. There are 2 ribbons attached to the front panel, one that leads to the IR (remote sensor) and other for the controls on the top of the unit.
Most likely the ribbon that goes to the IR sensor detached itself, this is common if the unit is dropped etc. Insert the ribbons (2) re-attach the front panel and the remote should work fine. You'll notice some tape on the IR ribbon, I suggest using some stronger tape, BOSE tape thats not very good.
This happened to me on my 3-2-1 GS II system and fixed it.

Try cleaning the side of the pcb where the rubber buttons rest on with a q tip soaked with acetone. You can also use methylated spirit. If this does not work, then there is probably an open circuit in the pcb or a component is not functioning. You need a multimeter and some knowlegde of electronics to test the components.

I had a similiar problem with the Bose Remote for Lifestyle 3. The Remote Just didnt work ,other than on/off.I had to stand infront of the system to make it work. Solution:- "Turn Off" all the electronic equipment near your bose system or connected to your bose ( TV, Hifi, Iphone , wifi ,xbox, Wii etc ) and then just "TURN ON" the Bose alone and try the remote...it should work fine. Then start each device one at a time followed by testing the bose remote the same time. I found out that once i "Turned On" the TV the Bose Remote failed to work. The TV was inteferring with the remote as both of them work on around 40Hz...Try it ...it just might solve your problem
