Hello Claufraco,

Because you didnt post more information I cannot help you much.

However, I would try the following.......

1. If you have the System Restore on, then simply pick a date from it when you know your computer was working ok.

2. If you dont have sysmet restore on, and you cannot use any other repair software, then put your windows CD in the drive and click "Install". You can then select "update" and just let windows do what it needs to and you will find that whatever was missing should be there again after a re-boot.

Please rate this if it helps.

Hey,

It appears the windows installation is corrupt or the hard drive has a problem. I would suggest to reinstall from the windows installation cd or from the restore cd. If you don't have these I suggest you take the computer to a repair person who can get it working for you.

Thanks,
Ekse

Initially I start with the Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup. Then, depending on what type of applications are running at start up, review my installed applications to determine which programs I can uninstall. I avoid installing Google Chrome onto my computer; because it is a "memory hog."

Also, when the computer is running slow, press Clt+Atl+Del and review the Task Manager. This will tell you exactly what is causing your computer to run slowly and you can "kill (or stop)" those applications to immediately increase performance.
Hope that helps!

You can try to Repair your Windows using the Windows installation CD (for Repair choose R when prompted). You can let the automatic repair to try and fix it, if that doesn't work upon restart reboot and start the Repair again, but this time select Command Prompt or Console and put in "bootrec /rebuildbcd" without the quotes.

I can't play or unistall The Hobbit for PC. When I try to uninstall it, a window pops up that says another installation is in process, but there isn't! What should I do?

If you are running windows XP, hold CTRL+ALT and press DEL on your keyboard. If you are running Vista or Windows 7, select Start TaskMaster after doing CTRL+ATL+DEL.

Once you are in taskmaster, click on processes and make sure setup.exe is nowhere in that list. If it is, click on it and then click on "End Process". Check for any other names of installers you may have used to install your game.

If you can't find anything there, download CCleaner and install it on your system. If you don't want the yahoo toolbar, make sure you deselect it in the installer.

Once CCleaner is installed, go ahead and click on the Tools tab. This will bring up an uninstall window. Try uninstalling The Hobbit there, as this often helps to get rid of pesky programs with non-working uninstallers.

When you first turn on your computer keep pressing F8 to bring up the startup menu. Choose the option that says "safe mode". If you can get into safe mode, then try to do a system restore back to the last date you have available and then reboot and you should be okay.

If you can't get into safe mode and you get the same error message then you have corrupt system files and you'll need to wipe out the drive and start over.

You're talking about My PC and device manager and I'm talking about Bios.
The BIOS (stands for Basic Input/Output System) is system software inside your computer that helps the computer start up, even before Windows does. It also contains key settings about what the computer has on board.
In newer computers, it exists on a special chip called CMOS (stands for Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor).

You can go into the BIOS to edit or change the technical information about key components of the computer like disk drives, keyboards, and display settings. It also keeps track of the date and time.
The BIOS can normally be accessed when you start your computer. You may see a reference to "Setup" when you turn your computer on. That’s your opportunity to get into the BIOS. It usually requires the push of a function key, such as F10, to get access to it. That "F" key varies between computers. Sometimes it’s not even one of the Function keys, but the ESC key or DEL key.

If a logo screen—like HP or Dell—is displayed during the start up process instead, then you may want to check with your computer maker for a command to turn off that screen and display the start up information, which is listed when a computer is powered on.
A partial list of BIOS access commands by brand is listed at the end of this article.
The BIOS also contains the boot-up sequence. Normally, computers are configured to boot from a hard drive.

Before you do anything to your BIOS, it’s always a good idea to record the original settings on a sheet of paper that can be kept in a safe place so you can reference it later if you need to reset it.
Here is a list of key sequences for various brand-name computers. If yours is not there, check with your manufacturer or watch for info flashed on-screen when your computer first starts, before Windows begins. It may say

"For setup hit..." That will be how to get into the BIOS on your machine.
