You have to press the enter button, the bottom left hand button, while standing over where you took your shot from. It will then tell you the distance once you are again standing over your ball.

What is the range of a 243 ?

The distance a .243 will travel and still be dangerous depends on the elevation or angle up it is fired at and a ricochet which can be up to 3 miles if the conditions are good
If you are asking the distance you should fire out to depends on the distance that you can put 5 rounds in the target for the weather conditions at the time which can be out to 3-500 metres
Under 200 metres is a better distance for first shot guarantee kills really it comes down to the distance that you can put that first round where you need it to be and if needed also the second one

Zero the weapon to 30 yards at first then try to get all your shots inside a 40mm circle once you can do that move out 5 yards and repeat until you reach a distance you are happy with like 50 to 60 yards as long as your first shot placement is the kill shot

There is a minimal focusing distance for all lenses. If you move closer to the subject than that distance then the camera won't focus on it. Check you lens manual for minimal focusing distance. It is 11 inches for Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM, for example.

D90 won't autofocus at distance

Mine seems fine. The only other thing I would think to check is the focus lock is off and the focus area setting.

if it has changed it's possible you changed the mode to where it takes longer to focus.

for one, this camera has a "constant focus" function that will continuously monitor distance to target and keep the camera in focus, for fastest focusing, switch to this mode. also, are you pre-focusing your images?

Many novices don't know that you are supposed to 'prime' the camera by lightly pressing down the shutter and then when it lights green on the LED light and on the screen, you depress the shutter fully to take the picture. I experience fast picutures this way and I prefer not to even use constant-focus mode. give that a try.

if you don't 'prime' it, the camera basically doesnt know its about to take a picture, so when you hit the button it has to effectively say "OH CRAP picture time!", focus itself, and then snap the pic.

best of luck.

Range finder does not register distance 99.9% of the time

I had the same problem, rangefinder would work only sometimes and only at short distances. Called customer support and was ready to send it in. Tech guy told me to turn off "First Target" ( or "last target") and turn on"LOS" (line of sight). Range finder now works perfectly at all distances. Apparently the first target feature doesnt work properly.
