What does unidentified image mean?

How can i review all the pictures that are stored on my camera? I could review all the pictures until I received the message that my memory card was filled. Now the only message I get is unidentified image when trying to review the most recent pictures.

It seems that the memory card is corrupted. You may try to follow this digital camera memory card photo recovery guide to recover lost photos from digital camera memory card
how to recover photos from digital camera
the guide helped me before, easy to follow and works well for me. Hope that you can find it helpful.
After you get back your photos, you can format the memory card in camera so that you can continue using it.

The card has become corrupted. First make sure that you have downloaded and backed up all the pictures that you wish to keep from the card. If your computer does not recognize them from the card, you may need to use recovery software. Here's some freeware that's very good:

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acard+reader&sort=price

The reason this occurred is that you likely never formatted the card. The card will work fine in the beginning but eventually will corrupt. AFTER you've recovered and backed up your photos, format the card in your camera to prevent this from happening again (dig out that instruction manual to figure out how). Keep in mind formatting will also totally erase your card, so again only do this after you've recovered the photos.

Same problem here on a Power Shot A3150 IS with a 8GB micro SD.
All worked well, then bom, only unidentified images. But the camera doesn't tell you unless you review the images...
Tried 5 recovery softwares dso far, some recover the images into a bmp, which then also says unidentified image... Even the camera can't read them.
And if I take a movie, I get an ASCII chaos in the folder the images are recorded in. No solution so far.

Unidentified image, image too large

Try formatting the memory card (or changing it). You probably have some bad sectors.

If this does not help, take the camera to a Canon dealer, it's probably a software problem

Unidentified Image

When a camera records a picture certain information is written in the image file. When you see it in another camera, the second camera reads the stored information and may be able to display the name the date and so on depending on the information stored.
However if someone sent you pictures attached to an e-mail message, they are often compressed and the information about the images may not be available. So, not fin ding the name of the image, the camera says unidentified image.

If you want you can rename them, but you will not be able to restore the meta information that was stripped off the image when it was sent by e-mail. Identified, or not the images are still viewable.

I have the same problem w/ my canon ixus 100IS.UNIDENTIFIED IMaGE

Try using a card reader to download your pics. Also, go to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture maker machine. You should be able to see all of your pics and print them or even make a cd of them.

You think you can try photo recovery software to see if you can rescue the lost photos or movies, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures and videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Unidentified Image

Usually the only time this message will appear is when you have taken the picture with another camera and try to review it on another. If this is not the issue, try formatting your card. Try another card. It may be a faulty memory card. If none of this works, call Canon tech support for free support.

Canon SD850 IS showing "unidentified image" after pic is taken

we have just experienced both of the above problems. We are using 2G SD card from Kingston. After about 400 pictures set to mdeium resolution we get many pictures with the ? mark unidentified image. I see that each image takes up about 2M of space but the image information is not stored so you can not open the file. Also other images have the shaded problem as above.

does anyone have any ideas about this. Is it the camera or the SD memory? We just bought the camera about 3 weeks ago and are now thinking of returning it
