Unfortunatley there is no way of repairing those. Even if you look at tops on the internet, they are usually about 1/3 of what the stove cost. Check your owners manual. Some of the tops are garunteed for 5 years from "accidental" cracks. That's about your best bet.

This is not a difficult repair, but it can be tedious. If you need assistance with locating a replacement, please post back with a complete model number, so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope you find this information helpful.

Yes, the glass cook top can be replaced. These counter top inserts are actually fairly simple to repair, but the entire assembly usually has to be uninstalled to accomodate removing the glass top and installing a new one. You will need to provide a model number by opening the cabinet underneath the cook top and looking for a nameplate in order for me to assist you further in determing a part number, cost and how to disassemble.

Glass cooktop scratched

Unfortunately, these style cooktops are VERY fragile to scratching and cracking. The wrong kind of cookware can also mark them. Copper or aluminum pots and pans can discolor them. Do not use pyrex (glass) cookware on them either. Stainless is the best. NO CAST IRON either. Anyways, there's not much can be done without replacing the top itself.

REPLACE CRACKED GLASS COOK TOP

First of all, if the cook-top broke as a result of a manufacturer defect, the repairs should be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. In this case, the repairs would be done at no cost to you. If, however, the glass top was broken as a result of the consumer, the repair will not be covered (even if it is still under warranty). If this is the case, it does not require an engineer to replace a glass cook-top. It can be time consuming, though. If you are somewhat savvy with fixing things, it can be accomplished by the average do-it-yourselfer. The following link explains how to replace most glass cooktops:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r391448-replacing_glass_cook_top

The tedious part of replacing the cook-top is carefully removing and handling each burner element. These are usually ceramic and are very fragile. You must be handled with care. If there is no common disconnect, you also will be required to unplug each burner assembly one at a time and label the wires. A digital camera can come in very handy for this as well. The easiest way to do this is to remove the old shattered cook-top, first and lay it side by side with the new one. Remove and install one burner element at a time.

If you wish to pursue this and require additional assistance, please let me know before you rate the solution. I hope this helps you.

Glass top broke on left cotner, cook top

Not that I know of, you can still use unless it crosses (the crack) one of the elements. That is a high dollar part, hope you can live with it.

I have a Kenmore electric range oven Model # 79095201103 that has a glass top. The top cracked and I ordered a new glass top for it. What steps do I need to do to replace the top. Is it complicated???

Here ya go...

This advice is for Electric Ranges equipped with glass smooth tops. If it becomes necessary to replace the cook top due to wear or damage, here's some helpful tips on how to complete the repairs yourself.

WARRANTIES: Most warranties DO NOT cover cosmetics. That is, if your cooktop paint starts to wear off, most manufacturers will not replace it. Warranties also DO NOT cover accidents such as dropping something on the top and breaking it. Warranties DO cover blistering, warping and heat related breakage (if you are using the recommended cookware). This is why it is important to follow all the manufacturer's use and care instructions that come with your range. I know this does not include ALL manufacturers, but this is true with most.

This is a recommended two-person repair job. Please read through the instructions carefully before starting the repairs, and follow any safety recommendations.

1. UNPLUG the range before servicing. There are dangerous voltages still present even with burners turned off.
2. If the old cook top is broken, you will need to get rid of a much of the glass shards as you can and thoroughly vacuum the area around the oven box. Use extreme care when handling broken glass. Wear safety glasses and gloves.
3. There are a few screws located under the front edge of the cook top. You will need to open the oven door to see them. Remove these screws and the top should lift up. If the range is not equipped with any kind of hinge supports, the top will have to be propped up.
4.On some ranges, there is a disconnect plug for the surface element wiring harness. If you have this feature, Follow these steps:

Unplug the cook top and leave the elements in place.
Place the whole cook top assembly face-down on a soft surface (like some old towels, or a blanket).
Remove the surface element assembly leaving all the elements wired together.
Place the new cook top face down in the same manner and lay the surface element with wiring harness directly on to it and screw in place.
Install the new cook top back on the range and you are DONE.
5. If the wiring harness does NOT unplug, follow these steps:
There are a series of screws holding the element assemblies in place. Leave these assemblies wired together for ease of replacing. It is recommended that a second person holds the assemblies in place to support the wires until all the screws have been removed.
Lay the intact element assembly, with wires still connected, on top of the oven box. Handle the surface elements with care. They are very fragile. Care also must be taken not to handle the element coils or ceramic material. Try to handle from the underside of the element only. Oil from your hands can cause damage to the element and/or premature failure.
If you have to remove the elements, individually, make sure you write down how the wires were connected to ensure you reconnect them in the right order. Make sure you also take note of the numbering scheme on the element and make sure you place the mounting brackets in the same holes that they came out of. Use care when screwing into the new cook top. CAUTION: The screw holes are usually painted and a little force may be required to thread the screws. Do not apply too much pressure on the glass, or you can damage it.
Prop the new cook top in place and install the surface element assembly from underneath. A helpful hint: Use some duct tape to hold the assembly until you have screwed it back into place. Don't forget to remove the duct tape when completed.
Lower the new cook top into place and secure with screws.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
