You may try
1) check RAM memory, fine the memory slots at back side (in a small cover) cross chenge memories if there are two, change other memory if only one.
2) restore or reinstall your windows. if can not reinstall or backup you need change another HD to try.

I cannot get the screen to come on, it is just black but the laptop is on

try removing the battery from th back.wait for like 5 minutes then restart the computer.

else try pressing F8 at the startup if you can go yo the advance boot options.
go to repair my computer..select the language then select the username and password..then in system reco ery optios try startup repair or system restore.

else go to safe mode with networking...there in command prompt type sfc /scannow if you have vista or 7..else if you have the xp in advance boot menu try last know good configuration.

Try the below steps to start the recovery
    1. If the computer is running, shut it down -- by clicking Start, Shut Down, and again Shut Down.
    2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard and then press the computers power switch. When the computer turns on, the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting three options:

    Restore Original Factory Image (Recommended)
    CAUTION:
Restoring a hard disk drive to its factory default state deletes all partitions on the hard disk drive and all data stored on those partitions. All of your files and information will be lost! Be sure to back up all important files first.
    1. Press 1 to restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that all data will be overwritten and lost during the restore process. Be sure to back up all important files before proceeding.
    2. Click Yes to begin the recovery. A message will appear once the operation is finished, indicating the HDD has been restored.
    3. Press any key to restart the computer.

if the above step is not working try to use the windows repair with the oprating system cd.
insert the cd in to thr cd rom, restart the computer
press F12 at the startup it will give you the boot sequence then select the cd

and if none of the things are working contact Toshiba..there might be a hardware issue

How do you go about to format a toshiba l650 and reinstall windows 7

Hi! If you have the Windows 7 disc just insert it restart the computer. It will boot directly from the disc. Then follow the step by step instructions here.
If you don't have the Windows 7 disc, you have two ways to reformat your Toshiba computer.
Using Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from the recovery partition
In case of a hard disk drive failure, you may be able to restore the drive to the factory default state using the on-disk Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility (in a special partition on the hard disk drive).
You can select restoring the entire hard disk drive to the factory default state, or restoring only the C: drive -- without affecting other partitions (for example, a D: drive) -- or changing the size allocated to your C: drive, and then restore it.
To recover your hard disk drive from a system failure using the utilities stored on your computers HDD, follow these steps:

    * The options 2 & 3 are for advanced users.
Hard Disk Drive Recovery using Recovery CDs or DVDs
You may also wish to to run the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from Recovery CDs or DVDs that you have created.

Insert the first Recovery CD or DVD into your CD/DVD drive, and turn on the computer. Once the computer is running, the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting the same three options above. Again Press 1 to
restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. Click Yes to begin the recovery. Press any key to restart the computer.

    Installing Drivers and Applications
The TOSHIBA Application Installer allows you to reinstall the drivers and applications that were originally bundled with your computer.
    To reinstall drivers and applications:
    1. Double-click the "Toshiba Application Installer" icon on the Windows desktop. This utility may also be launched by clicking Start -->All Programs --> Hard Disk Recovery Utilities.

      htd7c02140000r0136067.jpg

    2. Click "Next".
    3. Click the item(s) you wish to install. To select multiple items, hold down the Ctrl key as you click your selections.
    4. Click "Install".
    5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation process.

    Hope this helps.

    Computer screen wont turn on

    Hey,

It appears the windows installation is corrupt or the hard drive has a problem. I would suggest to reinstall from the windows installation cd or from the restore cd. If you don't have these I suggest you take the computer to a repair person who can get it working for you.

    Thanks,
    Ekse

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A105

    1. Please press and hold on F8 key immediately after power on then select Safe Mode. If you are able to go to the desktop, please go to Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. Please select a date when your laptop was working properly. This will the software changes beyond that date but will not delete your personal data. Your laptop will restart and give the message that the restoration was completed. Please connect the ac adapter so that the process will not be interrupted. If this does not work like if you are not able to
2.Do the system recovery but with this option, you will lose everything and your computer will be restored to the out of the box state. For you to do this, you will need to use the recovery disk that came with your laptop. Please load the disk 1 then turn your laptop off. Please press on the power button to turn it back on then immediately press and hold on the F12 key. Select CD/DVD from the boot options. Windows will be loading files then select Recovery Wizard. Select the Default Software after that then select the Recover to the Out of the Box State. After the first disk, you will be prompted to load the second disk. Please connect the ac adapter since the entire process will take around an hour.
    Hope this works. Thank you.

    Problem restarting, "press r"

    1. Start the laptop
    2. when the logo screen turns black start pressing F8 a few times.
    3. A Windows Boot Options screen should show on the screen
    4. If you see the Windows Logo (the normal thing when Windows loads, then press reset and try again
    5. At the Windows Boot Options screen select "Last known good configuration" and press Enter twice
It "should" now load normally, if not then..
    1. Replace step 5 above with "Safe Mode" and see if that loads all the way through. If so, then restart and see if its OK now.
If not, then post back with any error messages and we can look at something else.
