I only get an image of a USB & arrow & itunes icon
I went to recharge my i touch and an image poped up on the screen of a USB cable beneath an arrow pointing to the I tunes logo. I tried re-starting, and I can't get rid of that image. I don't use I tunes, I only use the I touch for the apps

You probably got yourself a new iPod! What the screen is trying to tell you is that you should sync your iPod to iTunes. To do that: Step 1: Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and click download to download iTunes. Step 2: Once it is downloaded, find where you have saved the file, and double-click it. Step 3: Continue by pressing next through each screen until you reach the end screen (the one where there is a finish button). Step 4: Connect your iPod to the computer with the USB cable that came with your iPod.Follow the on screen instructions. You should now be able to use your iPod!
If you haven't done anything stupid before that screen appeared, try turning it off first by holding the power and the home button at the same time for around 10 sec. (or until the image from your iPod screen disappears). After that, turn it back on by holding the power button for around 3 sec. Let it load first before you do anything. If the same screen appear again, then, that's the time you restore.
What to do is connect the ipod to your computer using the usb cable supplied and use itunes to set it up. You will then be able to update the software on the ipod and also upload your songs, movies and photos onto it. You can download itunes from the apple website at www.apple.com/itunes
make sure you're USB is unplugged. when you're at the screen with the itunes symbol and the usb arrow, hold down the home and sleep button until the screen goes black, at this point, keep holding for another 10 seconds. at this point your screen should look black as if the ipod is off. connect to the computer and itunes shoulds show a message like "itunes has just discovered an ipod in recovery mode" you'll be able to do a restore and regain use of your touch.
if this does not work, message me back.
