I had the same problem red blotch or circle on right side of picture.
It was corrected by an eprom upgrade done 5/5/08 for me free of charge under warranty. This tool should be available to do yourself but I do not think it to be the case.

Good luck

Defective light engine. Contact Sony support. They warrantied a lot of these sets even after the warranty had expired because of so many going bad after 3-4 yrs. Have the complete model and serial number ready when you call them.

Dark smudges/spots on my HDTV screen

The model indicated here Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 is a LCD rear projection and rarely if ever requires cleaning.

If black spots or such are gradually appearing the issue on this model is the optical light engine.

Set uses a LCD engine which the lamp shines directly into and heat from that very hot lamp can damage sensitive baffles inside the engine.

I would suggest also you contact Sony as they have on several models extended the warranty for this kind of issue---Engine is very expensive part and several of these Sony sets were involved in a class action lawsuit--hence they are dealing with them.

Do not take no for an answer if you want them to help you---the hinge that is sqeeks gets oiled...........

Mitsubishi rear projection tv is too dark to see picture

This is a very common problem within your projection TV set there is a small red, green, and blue picture tube. On top of the tube there is a lens that focuses the video on the screen. Between the lens and the top of the tube there is a hollow chamber filled with a clear liquid. This fluid is specifically designed to keep the tube from overheating. After about 4-5 years the fluid will start to become cloudy and will will get worse over time. Tvrepairkits.com is a good place to get a repair kit to fix this condition yourself.

Sony klv30hr3 screen green screening

I have an older Sony flat panel about the same age. It developed dark spots on the edge of the screen. Luckily it had just gone out of warranty and Sony paid for 70% of the repair which consisted of a new panel. The panel probably costs more than a new tv. Check with an electronics repair shop for an estimate.

My TV has gradualy developed a blurred picture over the last month and now is unwatchable, is it worth fixing. It is 8 years old

guessing this is a rear projection tv. You did not provide a model number. Check the CRT fluid to be sure it is clear and not cloudy. Since you mentioned the problem was gradual over time, I'm guessing it is the fluid. This would be more obvious if you were seeing like a frosted look to the picture or dark areas and bright areas, which are caused as the fluid clouds up.

Your alternative is to try adjusting the focus of each bulb on the focus block of the tv. I think with an older Philips the focus block is in the back of the tv.

My SAMSUNG DLP HLT5675SX TV seems to develop little black spots all over the screen and after a while these black spots become bright white spots. In fact if a non-used Input is selected and the screen is...

It is the chip that controls the millions of mirrors inside the tv. If they are black, they are stuck closed. If they are white, they are stuck open. I JUST had the same the same thing happen with mine. I bought it 3yr and 2 months ago and I had an extended warranty on it for 3 years. Well, needless to say, it was out of warranty and I was pissed. The store I bought it from suggested I call Samsung. Which, I did. They asked for the model number and told me that my model (hlt5675sx) was one of the ones that is covered becasue they had a problem with the chip. Within 2 weeks, my tv was fixed by a repairman who came to my house. It works perfectly, now and it didn't cost me a penny. Good luck.

Over time your blue CRT in the back of your set develops a fungal growth that covers up the glass and prevents light from shining through clean this off with a cloth dampend with waterd down bleach. While you're in the back of the set clean all 3 of the tubes of with this solution. After that wipe the back of the screen off with a dry cloth. Wipe the delfection screen of as well this is the screen that is diagonal to your front screen it actually deflects light to the back of the screen you watch. These can become very dusty over time and block light. This should fix your problem. If it doesn't the fluid in your 3 cathode ray tubes is cloudy and will have to be changed by a tech.
