Question about Creative Labs FourPointSurround FPS1600 Computer Speakers

Connecting creative labs fps 1600 sound system to laptop. How?

Hi all
I have been bought an Acer Aspire 9920 laptop. My question is, how do I connect my original fps1600 sound system to the laptop considering the only sound output socket is one 3.5mm female stereo socket marked up as headphones, and my fps1600 has 2 male 3.5 stereo plugs connected. I may well consider replacing the speaker system at a later date due to its age. Don't wanna blow my new laptop up though. I'm just unsure. Your help would be most welcome, or recommendations for a new speaker system taking ito consideration that I only listen to music and a bit of on-line gaming on laptop.

Thanks

Snowy

Hi, i recommend just using the headphone out, and it probably will not hurt the notebook, as it is not feeding back into the notebooks sound device. you may wish to do as i did, and get a creative labs external sound card. much improvement over the on-board high def sound built into my acer notebook.with all the connections you would want! as for speakers there are alot of models to pick from.i usually go with creative, but this time i went logitech- thx, dts, ect. and i am very happy. i hope this helps you make a decision on what do. good luck!glen

Sounds like you enjoy repairing stuff. The problem is, you may only be chasing from one condition to the other. Remember the failed resistor was a secondary effect from a primary failure in advance of the resistor in the circuit. As a rule, the cost of repair exceeds the replacement cost; thus I suggest getting a whole new Circuit board or another system. You can get a good deal at Tiger Direct on the internet. Go to the Refurbished section and get a very low price.

Humming sounds only on creative intrigue 2.1

You could be affected by an earth loop.
This occurs when the computer is connected to one power point and the Creative Lab speakers are connected to a different power point.
To fix this problem, connect a power board to the power point and then connect the computer and Creative Lab speakers to the power board and any other computer components.

Creative SBS 2.1 370 Speaker - Volume Remote Controller not worki

Hi Arun!

Try to plug your speakers to an iPod or any MP3 Player to check if there's sound. If there is sound, then try plugging it to the green port at the back of your speakers.

If it doesn't have sounds then you need to buy a new speaker system.

Is this just a speaker system or does it have a separate control unit?
My Creative system has a unit to select analogue, digital or optical inputs. Only the digital and optical will give 5.1 - but then only if the source material is Dolby Digital or Pro Logic.

Not enough jack

You need to buy an external sound card, without which you will not be able to get much from your speakers. It will not produce surround sound.

The sound card will give you required jacks and will produce real good sound. You may try audigy cards from creative.
