Re: Red ink not working on dcp340cw
Try placing a piece of Black Electricians tape over the stepped part of the cartridge make sure it covers the whole of the length this will fool the sensor into thinking that the ink is full. If you just cover a part of it on a near empty cartridge it will save not installed.
This check is done to make sure that the print head doesn't dry out but in my opinion these are set too high and you can waste about 8% of you total ink. If you do this before you install the cartridge you will be able to use all of the ink. Then just replace it with a new taped one...

Calibrate your new blank ink cartridge, have some nozzle check, cleaning check, and printer alignment. This are procedure that new ink cartridge will have to calibrate before you use. Epson printer are very sensitive when capable of changing ink cartridge. Unlink HP directly work without any print test because the cartridge head and ink join together, Epson with ink cartridge and the head separate. Have some test on it at Printer Maintenance. I'm sure 100% works on it. Good luck!
Perform the following procedure:
nPress the ink cartridge replacement button until the print head has moved to the change cartridge position nLift the lid that holds the cartridge (do NOT remove cartridge) and press down immediately. Then press the ink cartridge replacement button and allow the cartridge to charge the print head. Do NOT switch the printer off until the printer has finished charging. Does this solve the problem? when you change all new cartridges (make sure all cartridge ok, and the cartridge pins connection ok) still red color lost, it is the trouble at print head ink chanel some of that is too dry for longer time less using , most CANON printer head is separated from the ink cartridge, two way you may try:
1) take out the ink cartridge, drop down a little the special cleaner (best clean tools buy from dealer), to the head ink chanel hole, then set back the ink cartridge and waiting minutes
2) try put the print head bottom surface touch a little cleaner or water 1-2 hrs, if you can take out the print head unit. still not fixed for some case that should change the print head unit.
Try opening the printer properties and cleaning the print heads (should probably be done each time a cartridge is changed), it uses some ink up but should clean the build up from running the previous cartridge dry and hopefully solve your printing problem.
I had the same problem and I could not print read. I cleaned, put in new ink etc. Here's the kick.... I ran a nozzle check and noticed that the red and the cyan ink cartridges were reversed! I switched them and it worked fine. I don't know it that is your problem but it blew me away... such a stupid mistake, putting the ink in the wrong places.
