Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A fes tests and ideas you may want to consider/explore:

  • power on / boot the laptop;
  • note if it makes the normal sounds/beep when doing so;
  • note if the LEDs lit up as they normally do;
  • after a sufficient time, press the CAPSLOCK and note if the CAPSLOCK indicator would change state;
  • if yes on the above, then most likely, a fault in the inverter (most likely) and/ or a faulty CCF (cold cathode florescent) lamp (likely);
  • you could confirm by connecting an external monitor temporarily;
  • alternately, you can shine a flashlight obliquely against the display screen and determine if there would be some semblance of the desktop albeit very dark;
  • if no, then it would be a hardware fault on either the motherboard, memory, and a host of other possibilities;
  • if so, then your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional not unless you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) which would require familiarity with electronic/digital components and circuitry, use of a DVM and possibly a soldering iron.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Its a laptop?
just remove the ram by opening the back socket as some screws will be connected on the socket that has to be removed first to remove the lactch under which ram is located.check out the laptop only on power adaptor.remove the battery and keep it out.if the laptop works on adapter withour battery that means the battery is faulty.but if still has the same problem on adapter also.it has to be checked at a local repair center.as they will have all the required parts in spare to replace it and check out whats the faulty in your laptop.that has to be replaced.

Remove all the wires connected at the back of the cpu/tower.and also remove all the wires from the mother board connected.then remove all the cards connected on the motherboard and then clean if any dust on the board.also remove the RAM  and clean the golden metal lines on the ram with school used pencil rubber.then reinsert every thing back and check out.if still the same p[roblem.replace the cmos battery and check out its just cost negligible to replace the cmos battery.less then a $1.it should work after that.

Hi,

Do you still have warranty on the laptop? They should replace it or repair it.

if you don't have warranty you could take the laptop apart and remove the ram.

start up without ram

then plug in one of the rams and try staring up again.

    Try first removing the batttery and unplugging power cord for ten minutes first.

    This is called hard reset and can sort out problems related with settings, RAM and electrostatic charges.

    If that does not work the unit must be taking apart and tested.

    You can start by testing RAM if you have two ram sticks. Just remove one of them and see if the computer boots up with only one RAM.

    If removing battery did not help , then the unit is faulty and must be disassembled and tested by a technician.

    Test the unit with no battery and only ac adapter.

    If still no luck find a local repair shop and have it fixed.

CPU more than likely went bad because of overheat. Its not worth fixing unless you KNOW you can do it yourself Laptops are a nightmare to work on
Just a suggestion but laptops are for people who MUST carry their PCs around. The do not have a long lifespan. Desktops are much more durable

Why is my screen pitch black when I turn on my compyer

Hi Hi,

I guess my laptop just got infected with some trojan viruses and the screen is now all pitch black. what can I do to solve this problem? Please help! thanks in advance

I can only open up the task manager by clicking cotrol, alternate and delete and manges to surf the net somehow, other than this, I can't do anything as my screen is unable to load.

I have tried installing 30-day trial version of AVG anti virus but it detected my exrpired McAfee and said conflict of software. So, I can't install a free trial antivirus online. I have Norton bought recently but just didn't manage to get around installing it.

In Real Trouble and need of help,
Jenn

The error: Window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt;
WINDOWS\SYSEM32\config\system

You can attempt to repair this file by loading the Win CD into your cdrom drive. Start the PC & press the F5 key every 2 seconds & windows boot menue will load.
Choose the cdrom drive that has the Windows CD in.

Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.
Once back in windows run a full system virus scan.

Good luck & have a great day!
