We have two DMR-85H's set up in parallel at my work. At some stage someone changed the code on one of the remotes. We went from having 2 remotes that operated seperate DVD players, to having only one remote that works at any given time but operates both DVD players simultaneously. I was unaware of this and must have changed the code on the remote that was working, done something to change it, and now neither remote can access the "functions" page to change the codes back to their original settings...in other words both DVD players are saying DVD 1 and the remotes maybe DVD 2?
Does anyone know if there is any way to access these settings without using the remote and only the recorder itself or possibly reset the remotes manually? Any help on this would be much appreciated.

The symptoms sound like the laser needs cleaning adjusting or replacing by a qualified technician. If it is under warranty then you can return it. The only other thing youmight try is to open it and gently clean the laser lens with a q tip and a drop of alcohol if you know how. Otherwise get it professionally serviced.
Panasonic website under FAQs. Using code shown on dvd readout,
such as RC2, press 2 & enter or ok, hold for 2 seconds, and machine
will reset connection between remote & dvd recorder. So stupidly simple it works.
You could try Changing the Remote Control code for your DVD recorder. If you have more than one Panasonic device, there's an option to give each device its own Remote Control code. The Default is DVD1. So for FixMick, it sounds like someone may have changed the Remote Control code on your machine to DVD3. For Dador, someone may have changed the Code to DVD1. So you'll need to change the Code on either the device or the Remote to make them match up (see page 19 of the DMR-EH65 Users Manual ... you can download it from the Panasonic website)
Sorry FixMick. I don't know why your display isn't working.
Easy to fix. The DMR E55 has 3 remote control code settings and your remote can be set for any one of them. The error you are getting at the moment means that your remote is set for one code but your DMR E55 is set for another. Why do Panasonic do this? The reason that Panasonic do this, is because if you have several Panasonic units, you can operate one of them from your remote without all of them responding at the same time. Ok, so how is it fixed? Turn on your DMR E55 and press FUNCTIONS then select SETUP. Then select OTHERS. You will see the remote option on the right which will say DVD 1 or DVD 2 or DVD 3, Try setting it to a different code and press return. You should get it to work...
Got me too... If the buttons on the main unit work normally, then possibly main unit and remote control are using different codes. Main unit shows SET 1; change remote control code to match it: Press and hold [ENTER] and code number keys for more than two seconds. Fix listed in Operating Instructions troubleshooting guide, Operation section (pg 42). MULTI.PDF">http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMRES15-MULTI.PDF
I sent an e-mail to Panasonic New Zealand to ask about this, and they advised: "Panasonic NZ no longer pre set DVD recorders or players
for all region multi-zones.However, we will multi-zone for all
regions on request. This needs to be done by an
Authorised Service Centre, as a special service remote is
used.Once delivered to one of these
agents, the service company will charge the fee to Panasonic
If you're not in NZ, try contacting Panasonic in your own country. Just call up www.panasonic with your country code after eg. US = .com and NZ = .co.nz. It seems a *lot* easier than all those complicated hacks on the net. Now all I have to do is work out how to disconnect my DVD recorder again, and try to
PS. I realise this question is 11 months old by now, but I hope my response helps someone like me just cruising the internet looking for help.
