Hello, i would install the cpu you wish to use, then see how it runs. and then do a bios update. this may work,if not the motherboard may not be compatible with the cpu upgrade, (propriatory equipment sometimes does not allow such upgrades) like hit or miss! i hope this info helps, and you get the dell to accept the faster cpu. good luck! glen

The fastest Pentium 3 that will work in your board is a Intel Pentium III 1GHz chip. Here is a link to the specs:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/Intel-Pentium%20III%201000%20-%20RB80526PY001256%20%28BX80526F1000256%29.html

You could also get a Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz but it only has half the level 2 cache size so it's actually a bit slower than the Pentium III 1GHz chip.

I am having celeron processor with 256 RAM and 40GB HDD Can i install Windows 7 or Vista over this processor

Well, Vista and Windows 7 require at least 1GB of system RAM to run, If I were you I'd think about upgrading with more memory. Otherwise you will experience a very slow PC, the RAM problem will then slow down your CPU and you'll end up with a big mess.

I want to upgrade my intel celeron processor 1.8 ghz but wats the cheapest with performance and then the most expensive with performance

check with your motherboard book and see what processors it will except because it all depends on the chipset- usually the cost involved dosen't show much of a performance gain-- have you upgraded the RAM? that a big gain you will notice!

I need to upgrade my processor Intel Celeron CPU 2.0 Ghz L2 cache memory 128 kb System bus 400 mhz. What do you recommend.? Thanks

Find out the type of motherboard installed in your system and that will determine your upgrade possibilities.
Check your manual or if competent enough open the case and should be a label on the motherboard telling you what type. Get the number and google for answer

in the BIOS-setup, normally you can adapt the bus speed. as it's running at about 400mhz, i suppose it's set to auto. within the advanced system settings, you should be able to set the bus config to manual and then you can choose the appropriate bus speed below.

Processor upgrade

Foluwa,
You can go here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/details?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~tab=2, and enter your service tag number (would have done it for you if it was posted) and you'll get your systems configuration and should be able to determine *********** Board, Socket, and max Processor that it will support.
Good luck.

Upgrade the processor on a Toshiba equium l40 series from a celron M

The core2 duo chips will be a different socket to your celeron cpu so can do that unfortunately. You may be able to upgrade to a faster cpu of the same socket type but will probably need a bios update for it to run at proper speed.

Unfortunately laptops arent really designed to be upgraded at all bar extra ram/hd/dvdrw.

Hope that helps?
