Hello, i would install the cpu you wish to use, then see how it runs. and then do a bios update. this may work,if not the motherboard may not be compatible with the cpu upgrade, (propriatory equipment sometimes does not allow such upgrades) like hit or miss! i hope this info helps, and you get the dell to accept the faster cpu. good luck! glen

CPU upgrade optiplex gx110 motherboard

The 1.4 GHz chips are Tualatin cores- they use a different voltage than your previous chips and as such you would need an adapter that fits between your socket and that CPU... It is very bad for that chip and your motherboard to continue trying to run is as-is so I would stop powering it up with it in there immediately if you already haven't done so. I'm in the same boat as you with an Optiplex gx110 that I really love, but I'm stuck with my 933 [Which by the way you COULD run up to a 1 GHz PIII Coppermine in that thing] and my 1.4 sitting on the desk until I find a suitable adapter on eBay or something.... Once I have the adapter, I still don't know if the bios will play nice.

Hope this helps at least a little!

Upgrading my laptop's processor from celeron 540 to 560

Hi there,
Fan cooler for Celeron is usually the same for 540 and 560 Ghz, there should be no need to replace cooling system if you pass from 540 and 560
Whenever you operates on CPU and cooling system you need to monitor CPU temperature using Bios or a dedicated software. Here is a good software to check CPU temperature and Fan activity: SpeedFan Download.
Regarding the RAM, some seller like this one (UK seller).sells Trascends 2 GB modules, seller says they work on 4315, you can eventually ask them if there is any issue with bios version and if you need to upgrade bios.
Remember, CPU upgrade on a laptop is not a simple operation, be careful if you do it yourself, as it is easy to damage the laptop when taking it apart. Regarding RAM, main risk is incompatibility, If you live in UK the seller above guarantee compatibility with Acer 4315, double check by sending them an email before buying.

Cpu upgrade dell dimension 5100

Hi, according to the Dell website you have a LGA775 socket on your motherboard. Therefore, you can only buy processors that fit into this socket. Here is a list of some offered by Intel that will work: Celeron D 325 2.53 GHz Celeron D 330 2.66 GHz Celeron D 335 2.8 GHz Celeron D 340 2.93 GHz Pentium4 520 2.8 GHz Pentium4 530 3.0 GHz Pentium4 540 3.2GHz Pentium4 550 3.4 GHz Pentium4 560 3.6 GHz Pentium4 570 3.8 GHz The processors that won't work are the ones that are not compatible with this socket. Everytime you look up a cpu it will tell you which socket it is designed for. To buy a cpu you will need to decide: The brand you want. The speed of the cpu that you want. Extras i.e. Hyperthreading, etc. How much you are willing to pay for it. Then you can narrow your search as you stick within your limits. Let me know if you have more questions. Good Luck
