Last night i pressed a few buttons on the lap top key pad, the buttons were around the space bar. The laptop froze and nothing would work, not ever CTRL ALT Delete. So i held down the power button to turn it off. I then restarted the laptop. The power light came on but the screen stayed black.
I have tried running the battery down then recharging it but this did not work. Any ideas any one. I would reaaaaly appreciate your help.
PS im no good at computers so please explain as best you can xxx
The power light is on but the screen remains black. At times, the power light remains on while the screen remains black while at other times, the power light goes off after awhile. However, normally after a few days, the laptop returns to normal working condition. But now, about a week has passed, and the screen remains black whenever the i on the laptop.

Have you tried pressing space bar (maybe its in hibernation mode) ?
or try holding power button for a few seconds (10) then turn it back on.
as a last resort you could try take the battery out, disconnect it from the power adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then place the battery back in and the power adapter and try powering it on?
Remove the battery and the AC adapter from the laptop.
Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds then let go
Plug the AC adapter only back into the laptop
Now press the power button on the laptop
If it now boots properly shut down the laptop and insert the battery
Now push the power button again
If it now fails you may have a bad battery
You should try booting into safe mode. Press the F8 key before the windows logo and choose safe mode without network support. If windows loads run a checkdisk by right clicking on the c drive, left click on properties and then select the tools tab. From there you can run a disk test to check for errors. If you get that far then reboot and see if it starts normally. If not try F8 again and try selecting restore the last known working condition. This will restore your settings from the last time it worked. If you can’t get to the F8 screen get back with me and I will try a few more drastic solutions. Good Luck
press the fn key on laptop hold it down and then press the power key on the laptop. once u see any display on the screen you will get some tests running on the screen. The system will show you the error message which u need to note down. else you can do a Flea Power on your laptop. Remove the adapter and the battery and then press the power button and hold it down for 30 seconds then connect the battery and adapter back and try to turn on the laptop. See if the magic works for you
If you are running with XP try switching the unit on and pressing F8 while the computer is booting up
This should put you into Safe Mode
If that works go to Start , Accessories, System Tools ,System Restore and if the shop did the right thing when they built it you will have the System Restore function running
Ask the machine to do a System Restore and it should give you a number of dates to restore to, pick on that is a few days before the last update and let it roll
IBM laptops generally comes with protection mechanism to stop the harddrive if the laptop experieces heavy vibrations or shocks. This is to avoid any possible impact to the hard disk and its data. But this sometimes freezes the Laptop. The screen may be blank because you might have pressed a combination of Fn and F3 which will switch off the screen. Try to press the same combination to bring the screen back up.
