Gtalk is only available on windows, so it cannot be installed on a macbook air. Although, you can install the gtalk plugin and chat while logged into gmail from with the browser on your mac. http://www.google.com/talk/
I'm ptetty sure that gtalk (the application ) won't work - don't worry though. As gtalk as a protocol is basically XMPP with some extensions there are not one implementation of the protocol working under Linux. You can try pidgin or empathy both of them have gtalk support. They both have packages for Almost every distribution out there. After you get them installed go to Accounts (if it doesn't show you an account maker wizard window from the start) and choose as protocol gtalk - if not present you should choose xmpp .
That was my problem when I first installed gtalk. It won't minimize or close when you right click it to the task bar. Yes it really won't.
What you need to do is to close the gtalk by clicking the X button on the upper right corner of the software, After that, you'll see that the icon was already on the tray (and still you're sgned in unless you signed out). If you want to restore, just double click the icon.
Maybe you need to configure the proxy settings of your gtalk application. Or you can try downloading a new gtalk installer and install it. if problem still persists, there may be a configuration on the gtalk application, or your computer has been infected with a malware virus that blocks your system from connecting to their server. Let me know if the problem still persists, i will provide another option based on your experience in troubleshooting the application. Thank YOu.
The standard version of GMail requirres afster internet connection. You can solve this problem by slecting the "Older version" or "Basic HTML" versions of GMail.
To enable this, when your Gmail page loads, you will find a link at the top marked as "Older version" and one at the bottom of the page marked as "basic HTML". You can select either of these and you'll surely find a noticeable difference in the speed at which the Gmail page opens.
Well that's not available yet, all messengers have this stupid thing that you can't chat with users of other messengers.
I have found scripts for windows messenger, so you install plus and then scrips for it. that gives you gmail on msn, and lots of other stuff.
When that feature will be enabled, and if it is for gtalk, you must look for it on gtalk pages - look for additional software or updates. gtalk is still in beta and it will be long time for them to do that, but i know that there is one messenger that you can use it to contact all the contacts from talk programs that your friends use.
Try to find if the script or application for gtalk exsist, it can any day.
If you don't find anything write to my email and i'll send you link for the messenger that works with all talk programs, but i have to look into my favorites to find the name.
try downloading google talk again and install it... even then if you are getting the same problem... its a problem in the Operating system... some file must have corrupted... so re-install OS and install gtalk...
or simple way.. juz login to your gmail id... u have an internal gtalk available... in inbox itself.. hahaha..
