SOURCE: doesn't read disks

Hello,
If you are getting the error that states your discs are dirty then the problem could be that your optical lens is dirty. You will need to open the tray then unplug the unit from the wall. Get some cotton cu tips and rubbing alcohol. If you look inside the laser carriage you will see a glass looking bubble in the middle (that is your optical lens). Dip a cu tip lightly into the rubbing alcohol making sure you do not totally saturate it. Gently clean the optical lens in a circular fashion with the cu tip. Repeat this step a few times and then let air dry for 2 minutes before plugging the device back in and then replace the cover and try playing your discs. For best results clean your optical lens once every two months (sooner if you live in a dry dusty climate or have pets inside along with blowing out the inside with a can of compressed air) also clean your discs often to keep them in good shape and place them in their cases when not in use to avoid scratches. You can check out my tips for cleaning dvd/cd discs for more information also. Let me know if you need further assistance.

If you would not mind please rate my help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

SOURCE: previously recorded disks and new disks all-dirty disk rejection

you may need to go thru the cleaning process a couple of times since it has never been cleaned ,but I'm glad there is a for sure improvement
that was my thinking about the laser lens cleaning disc , I have helped alot of people with thier player as well because they to did not know of the disc either. they do not advertise it enough for people to always hear about it or include the cleaning process and recommendations(maybe because they want you to buy a new one is about right!)
sometimes they get so dirty the laser lens has to be cleaned manually ( with a q - tip and the disc solution )
if you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask

"wrong disk" message appears after load time

If this happens on more than one DVD, it might be necessary to clean the lens of the DVD player. Safe commercial products are available at local drug stores for around ten dollars.
The "wrong disk" message is usually associated with Data disks, i.e. those having computer files rather than DVD movie files.
If this is an older DVD player, the DVD may have been written on a high-speed DVD writer which creates smaller data spots which may not be read correctly on older DVD players.
Barring these problems, it is probably just broken. DVD players, although not having as many moving parts as VCRs, do not last indefinitely.

Unknow Disk - Please check disk again ERROR MESSAGE. Have tried previous burn disks the work no problems in the DVD player..... BUT disks I have burn as of today keep coming up with the above error...

The problem is you need to replace the laser assembly if the disc is spinning and not being read, or if the disc isnt spinning, you need to replace the mpeg printed circuit board attached to the laser assembly. Good Luck.

DVD will not load/format new disk

I have got exactly the same problem. Thought I had found some discs that worked as the first one formatted, since then all have come up with that crappy error protection message. Samsung really should sort this out.

Doesn't recognize any disks

I updated my firmware from 1413 to 1416 found on avforums. This is for european units. I suggest you also complain to Toshiba Japan as there are known issues with the xs32. We all need a firmware update. See AVforums.

My unit will not recognise RAM discs anymore - even those that I had previously used.

Have you thought of replacing the DVD drive. See AVforums.

Samsung DVD-4600 DVD/VCR Player

My Smasung DVD/VCR Combo stopped reading DVDs because of a dirty read head. It started by only playing disks sometimes, and progressed to never playing disks. I assumed it was a dirty laser lens so I bought a lens cleaner set. Unfortunately my player wouldn't play the cleaner disk.

So I took it apart and cleaned the laser lens manually with some isopropyl alcohol (the clenser that came with my cleaning disk), and a lens cloth (that came with my glasses). Just open the case (starting with the screws in the back) and remove the snap in cross panel that obscures the lens of the DVD portion. Put a drop of cleanser on the lens and gently wipe it with the cloth.

Oh and by the way, I take no responsibility if you break your own player while following my instructions. My own DVD player was far out of warranty at the time I cracked it open.

Try using 8x and lower DVDs and -R ones; try cleaning with CD cleaning disk and then try recording a few min again. If that doesn't help try unplugging and waiting about 30min then put in disk that was previously recorded and go to last item and play it to end (if 2hr long skip to last skip and then play until it finishes) - now try just recording a few min using the manual DVD record button and see if error comes up again - usually this unplugging somehow resets everything. Hope this helps ya'll.
