Hi...
yes you can use you wireless laptop anywhere in the house, once you have setup the wireless router, what you need to do is to connect the laptop to your wireless network, once this configuration has been done in you computer you will connect to the wireless network automatically from next time if you are in the boundary of your network and yes your friend can use her laptop provided she connects to your network like you did for the 1st time...

Toshiba M35X-S311 laptop that wireless will work anywhere but not at the house, have a linksys router. Everybody else can come over and connect wirelessly to my router but when I turn my wireless button...

First You can not connected the net by Safemode.
Second, Use the wire, connect the Linksys to your computer, and if you are using another modem, set this first using same SSID and password.
Then remove the cable and set the wireless (Before That while cable is on see the wireless on linksys home page and access it. to get your key number or set it up.)
If you can not, try to see Cisco systems user guide.

No pc to act as hub

First thing you should do is get a wireless router. The Belkin F5D5231-4 is not wireless, so to use it, you have to connect with cable. I think that's not what you want.

Maybe you've just posted your question under the wrong model. So please tell me which wireless router you've got, when you have one.

I can help you further then.

Libog1 - did you install any additional wireless software to connect to the router (Linksys software) or are you just allowing Vista to connect directly using Windows' built-in wireless management?

Trying to network xp pc to wireless laptop

Right click on the drive you want to share. Ex: C:\Vol-xx = name. In the pop up window click Sharing & Security. This needs done to all the drives you want access too. To share a printer. Everyone must have the printer drivers installed. The Pc that has a direct connection to the printer must also Share the printer on the network. Open Printer & Faxes, highlight the printer you want to share. Click File than click Sharing follow windows instructions.
Small suggestion regards to the wireless side of the network. Suggest you setup security so others close too you can not tap into your network. (common).
