Question about Canon CanoScan LiDE 50 Refurbished Scanner
I have just moved from an OX 10.4.11 to an new MacBook Pro OS 10.5.5 and the supplied software will not work on the new machine.
What do I need to download?
Same thing with a Canon LIDE 50
I found this scanner at a garage sale today, and had trouble finding this info myself. Finally stumbled upon this site ( http://cadwell.livejournal.com/39545.html )
I'm using it on a Powermac G5 but both the driver and toolbox app say they are univeral binary. Hopefully this gets you up and running too:
CanoScan LiDE 30 on Mac OS X 10.5
This technical help may seem completely out of place on this art blog but after scouring the internet for 3 hours trying to set my 6 year old scanner up on my new MacBook, I found this info half way down a lengthy comments section of a random blog. So I thought I'd post it here (slightly altered) as a message in a bottle to anyone else in need of it.
How to set up CanoScan LiDE 30 on Mac OSX 10.5
Select MAC OS X
LiDE 20/LiDE 30 Scanner Driver Ver. 220.127.116.11aX
(Mac OS X)
CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 18.104.22.168X
(Mac OS X)
INSTALL CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 22.214.171.124X
INSTALL LiDE 30 Scanner Driver Ver. 126.96.36.199aX . Make sure Applications>CanoScan Toolbox 4.1>Plug-Ins is selected as the install location.
You will be asked to RESTART. You should.
When you run CanoScan you can choose Photoshop as the default program to open the image in once it has scanned. You do not need Photoshop to open using Rosetta for this to work.
NOTE: If you want to scan directly from within Photoshop CS3, you need to copy the driver 'ScanGear CS 7.0X' which is found in Applications>CanoScan Toolbox 4.1>Plug-Ins into the photoshop pluggins folder, Applications> Adobe Photoshop CS3>Plug-Ins>Import/Export. You also need to open photoshop in Rosetta mode. Apple + I on the photoshop icon and select 'Open using Rosetta'. I would not recommend using this method though.
Go to System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items and remove both of the following:

OS X and OX 9 are the only two Apple drivers listed available for you printer. No Solution available unless either one of these work, which you have alread indicarted that oen of then dowes not. Cannon decides to update or add a driver for this old product, which is unlikely.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Tips for a great answer:
Guide to installing Canon CanoScan LiDE 35, 50 and 60 on Mac OS X 10.8. Mountain Lion:
FIRST PART: DELETING OLD LiDE DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE
HD:/Library/Image Capture/Twain Data Sources
delete the CanoScan CanoScan XXXX.ds file
(Make note of any other files that may be in this folder. If other files are present, move them to the desktop for now. Then place them back after successfully using the scanner.)
delete the 'CanoScan XXXX' folder
delete the folders containing the name CanoScan, or starting with CNQL.
delete the CanoScan Toolbox Application
delete any items named "CanoScan Toolbox"
SECOND PART: MAKING YOUR SCANNER WORK
CanoScan LiDE 50 and LiDE 35 work both with the 35 driver:
CanoScan LiDE 60 driver:
VueScan 9.2 (or later) x32 for Mac OS X
Alternative to VueScan: CanoScan Toolbox. I prefer VueScan.
Try your luck with Version 4 or Version 5.
CanoScan Toolbox 4: cstbosx4934ej4.dmg
CanoScan Toolbox 5: cstbosx5014ej4.dmg
(Alternatively try and install CanoScan Toolbox 4 or 5)
