you need resider that your backup xp disk is a ghost disk which only recovery your original xp and the partition is no change as before. so you can not make new partition at all.

Hi there
Put the cd in the drive, restart the PC and hit F2 while it starts, go to the boot options and choose the cd drive as first boot device, hit F10, save and exit, the pc will restart and then will boot from the cd, it may ask you to press any key to boot from cd, you will then see setup screen and the new operating system will start to install.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

Hey,

its very simple, byt 160GB?? It might not work on your laptop, you may need to get a smaller hard drive.

1. remove the old hard drive from the computer, you can generally get to it from the bottom, some models via battery some models have few screws on a cover that you can take off and its inside, for example

how do i replace a hard drive in acer 2303lc- - baa0ac7.jpg

Remove the old drive, unscrew it from the HDD (HardDrive) case.

place the new drive in the HDD (HardDrive) case. Screw it in.

place the new drive with its case back into the computer.

close the cover.

Done.

Install windows, in setup, partitioning the disc into parts is optional you can have one big partition or two partitions, its really up to you,

I currently am using the single partition style on my computer here.

so all to one partition, did you need anything else?

in the windows setup just press install on the empty space and it will partition it and install.

Thanks,
Ekse

if you want to have it on a separate partition on the windows setup select create partition give it as much space as you want. 10 - 30 GB then create another patition and give it the rest.

How do i find hdd user password on acer extensa 5420-5571

You have to find the person that put the Hard Drive Password on. I'm not saying you stole the laptop, but 99% of the time if a person has a laptop and does not know the hard drive password, the laptop is stolen. The original Owner put the password on the hard drive to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. It could have been set remotely by the original owner if the laptop i stolen.

I need to remove the hard drive and install another on my acer aspire 3004wlci and i need instructions on how to do this can anyone help

It you take the drive out and fit it into another machine (not the same model) there is a good chance when you boot it you will get a blue screen of death. You see if the chipsets on the motherboards are different then windows wont like it. You are best buying a laptop drive caddy and using it as a slave drive.
To remove it is easy. turn the laptop over and there are a few removable cover usually held by two screws. remove the covers until you find the one the drive is in and you may find it is held by another screw 9probably not) it will just slide out.

The steps required when replacing the hard drive and ensuring that the software is input on the new drive

Gizmo runs a freeware site. It is easy to create an exact drive image.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-drive-imaging-program.htm
Choose a program, read carefully the instructions, download, install and run. Ideally, you should backup to the new drive, however it is not possible in a laptop - no connection! Create the image on DVD (making sure you create an additional DVD recovery media to get the image off the image DVD back to the new drive) and then use the DVD to put everything back as original.

Another solution? If you are using Windows 7, it already comes with drive imaging software! Windows Backup can complete the whole process! Leave the program scheduled and it can make regular backups as well.

After you have made a verifyable image backup, you can switch the drives, making sure you disconnect the power and remove the battery first... and do not drop or mishandle the drives!

Hi i have an acer aspire m5100 have backed up the 500gb hard drive and needed to change hard drives but when i restored both partitions and tried to do an erecovery it doesn't work didn't clone...

Greetings,

As you can see from the figure, recovery partition can be seen in the Disk Management but it can't be accessed. unless you give or assign a lettter to that partition using Diskpart and run as an admin. you have to clone the original hard drive from your Laptop to have a recovery menu. you can create your own recovery.

How to replace Acer Aspire 5630 Hard Drive

The link below gives you the user manual. On the computer views is the base view which will show you the correct bay on the bottom of the computer. You will loosed the screws to that bay, remove the cover andl you will see the hard drive. Althought I have not removed this particular laptop hard drive, these drives usually pull up or back using a tab provided. The hard drive will probably have a cradle the actual drive is connected to. You will have to removed the old drive from this cradle and put the new drive back on the cradle exactly the way the old drive was attached,

I hope that this information helps and gives you a place to start solving your issue.

Ive installed 160gb seagate 2.5 ide hard drive in my acer 2303lc when i put in recovery cd it says invalid system disk, replace the disk and press any key but when i press the key nothing happens ,its a new...

Hey,

Do you have more of those recovery discs? are you sure you have the right one inserted?

I remember on my acer I first had to enter a system disc, then when asked the two recovery discs.

If your unable to get it working with those cds I would suggest you get your hands on a original windows xp or vista installation cd and install windows from it.

also have you tried to enter the boot menu on start up? when you power up it says on some corner of the screen what button to press to get it to open the boot menu and then select the cd/dvd rom drive.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

Restore to factory setting

If you want to completely reset it back to the original windows settings you must re-format your computer. This won't put the original programs back on it that you had before, but it will give your computer a COMPLETE reset. Meaning also that if you want to keep some data you must put it on some external drive because your hard drive will be completely overwritten.

If you want to get it back to just the factory settings, you could try to contact their customer services if they don't anything on their site to help you, although I would not recommend it. Factory settings aren't the best because they usually put stuff on your computer that you don't really want. Re-formatting is the best thing to do.
