Hi there.
Many laptop keyboards tend to start doing this after prolonged use (including my own), there is no way of fixing them.
What you need to do is replace the keyboard, in the meantime, you can use a small usb keyboard or use the on-screen until you get the keyboard replaced.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

The best keyboard for a laptop is a rubber one you can roll up and pop in your laptop bag!!
And!!! the best thing of all !! they are not expensive, i live in the UK and the cheapest is around £5 which is $7.50 in USD.
If you want me to get the info on the laptop keyboard let me know

    Thanks for using Fixya!!

Otherwise. .you can try these...
Please check is there any loose contact at DC POWER SUPPLY Jack. Remove the battery and clean it and reinsert battery,
If the system is properly shutting down, there may be a keyboard KEY is struck on the Sleep Key. Please clean your key board also.
Try once by removing hard disk, RAMs and reinsert it.

Best solution now is to find a replacement keyboard. They are very easy to replace. Also, could use an external keyboard. Not ideal but it works.

As for cleaning, if the coffee had sugar and cream there is not much you can do.

There is one option I hesitate to suggest. Take the keyboard off, run it under warm water and let it dry for a few days before putting it back. May or may not work.

SHIFT KEYS NOT WORKING PROPERLY

Please try to deactivate the Fn (function) key. That will help you get rid of your problem. Press Fn key + Numlock key once and try again. You can also try pressing the Fn key once and type letters in any word processor program with the key combination everytime you press the Fn key once. E.g. open the notepad, press Fn once and after that press ) with Shift.

If you have problem, let me know.

Good luck.

Try using the function keys to enable the mouse. I'm unsure which of the 'F' keys it is, but if you can locate the picture, then hold down the Fn key + the appropriate 'F' key and hope that the mouse starts to work. Also you can try loading into the BIOS, hitting F9 to reload refaults, and then F10 to save and exit. Failing these both, best option would be to go back to retailer. Good luck

Acer aspire one notebook broke

you might be able to fix it by taking the battery off and popping off the keys and cleaning underneath the keys with gentle cleaner - that worked for me when i got sticky keys from orange juice; but be gentle when you take the keys off as they are on very fragile hinges and you don't want to break them...also - be sure that anything you do from here on out may void your warranty

Sticky keys

Dear rwertheim

Try the following guide

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/03/20/key-fell-off-keyboard/

There are no guides from Gateway for the keys available for the but this guide will be more than enough to help you through this one in order to remove them. Its should be completely the same principle.

Cleaning the keys should be done without alchohol based cleaners because the lettering might be erased. Use some soap and warm water instead and gently scrab with a soft brush the bottom of the keys.

Please remember to take out your laptop battery/ac adaptor in any case since you will be working at hardware level with your equipment.

Regards, and I wish you no more sticky keys!

Please dont forget to rate this solutin!
