Question about Panasonic PT-61HX41 61" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Unable to adjust aspect ratio to 4:3

Lost power in the house suddenly. Television is a 2002 Panasonic PT-61HX41. With power restored the display is now 16:9. There is no high-def signal being sent to unit, just basic cable. The aspect ratio control on remote control will size to 4:3 but only in the middle of the screen, not the full screen, and with significant picture distortion. The Picture Menu no longer displays a selection for aspect ratio. How can I rest the unit to display full screen 4:3 images, please?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

If you have a problem with the convergence, believe me, going into the service menu and trying to correct it will only give you large headaches, DO NOT USE THR SERVICE MENU UNLESS YOU ARE A TRAINED TECH!!!! Doing so can result in a complete and total failure of this TV set. I service menu is not for any major changes in any adjustment. It is not the cure all. If your convergence all of a suddenly shifted, it is not a service menu issue. Your problem is the convergence amp IC's. Good Luck

SOURCE: Aspect Function Not Working

Normallly, if the picture size button on the remote for the television does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made. For example: A Motorola Cable box needs to be set up to go to a wide screen or zoom when an analog signal is detected. Some Dish Network boxes have Size buttons on their remotes and also in their main menu. It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the types of the peripherals. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: HDMI Signal gone

The HDMI interface may have suffered a malfunction, this offten happens due to stray voltages on the ground plane. If you do not have electronics experience I would suggest taking the set to the shop and having it repaired

SOURCE: TV picture aspect ratio

No. Aspect Ratio is same for UAE and India, and also the broadcast System.

Most Cable TV operators in India broadcast the signal 'slightly oversized, and so the viewer gets the Scrolling at the bottom and top of the screen cut-off.

The picture images are fat and squatty, particularly people! Can the picture be adjusted?

Search the remote for a button that says "format" or "aspect ratio" or maybe "display." You're looking for 4:3 aspect ratio. This will probably give you bars on the sides of the pic and is usually only adjustable on analog.

Top and bottom of screen are cut off how do we adjust to get screen to fit

Press the "Aspect" button on the remote until the picture looks appropriate. You are probably trying to display a 4:3 ratio channel on your 16:9 ratio TV. You are probably viewing it in "zoom" mode, which does not stretch the 4:3 ratio video, but enlarges it until it fits the width of the screen, which zooms part of the video off the top and bottom of the screen.

You have a "Static Convergeance" problem.
If the problem has been getting worse over the time period of say 3 months, then you have component failure. Probably electrolytic capacitors drying up.
If it went wrong all of a sudden, you possibly have dry joint, possibly contacts on plug/sockets.
Carefully check for problems and bear in mind that nothing will be very obvious.
Hope this helps.

There is a service menu that techs can use to adjust vertical and horizontal widths. If it is not an aspect ratio problem then it is likely that it needs to be adjusted.

I cannot change aspect ratio

If you are trying to change the aspect ratio on the television make sure you are sending an HD signal Via Component cables. I am not aware of a way to get HD cable without a PC cable card or box, it could be that your television is not receiving the proper signal (analog, or composite) to switch the aspect ratio on your particular television.
