OS is XP
Have installed other games and software this week w/o incident. Error pop-up reads 'administrator has policies in place to prevent this install'; I am the admin and am logged in as same and have not set any such policy; I have the latest updates; I have tried restarting, closing all anti-virus programs b4 installing,scandisk and defrag.
The game is FEAR 2 and the PC meets and exceeds the min reqs for the game.

It's probably an issue with Vista, right click on the icon, go to properties, run as administrator, and run in compatability mode for XP. If this doesn't fix the problem, try contacting the software manufacturer.
Please check the back of the packaging for your game and see that your computer meets minimal requirements also older games will not work due to age. If this game predates 2000 you may not be able to play it with out tweaking windows.
Dear Ceceboo, It Seems that this Game is required higher graphics resolution and your existing system cannot support that , please read the minimum system requirement ,which is mentioned on Game CD.If your system fulfil these requirement then you can just download the directx and install it on your system but i repeat again ,you must read the system requirement first ,which is mentioned on your game CD.
Try right clicking the installation executable and choose Run As Administrator. By default, even an administrator account in Vista doesn't run with administrator privledges unless you elevate the action using user account controls.

This file I believe it is from GameGuard, Nprotect.
First check that you are running games in Administrator mode, or you always get similar problem. If you run games as administrator and it still happens, then you need to reinstall direct x. Download and install as administrator. Check:

Ohh & if ya must install then install as Administrator with computability mode set for XP
