Question about Toshiba DVR610 DVD Recorder/VCR

Cannot record onto DVD

I have a Toshiba D-VR610KU video recorder combo. I have not been able to record on any DVD media except using HP DVD-R 8X. No other brands or speeds seem to work,I keep getting error code E4 54039000, what does this mean??

I went onto the Toshiba web site and found out there is a problem with the model D-VR610 thus it will not record a digital over-the-air broadcast program because it determines the program to be copy protected. I have tried to record using many brands of DVD media such as Maxwell, Sony, JVC, Memorex +R, -R, and in each case I get the error code E4 54039000. The only DVD disk that seems to work is the HP DVD-R 8X, of which I'm having trouble finding in stores. I plan on calling Toshiba to find out when they will be providing the firmware to upgrade the recorder to correct the problem. I hope I'm on the right track.

push the setup button. goto general setting. goto recording. goto dubbing mode. checkmark VCR-DVD, if that is how you are recording. Back out of the setup and put your VCR to the point that you want to begin recording. Use a Blank disc, or one with enough space to complete your recording. At the bottom of the remote, there is a red button marked "dubbing". push it, and push stop at the end of the recording.

I have a toshiba D-VR610KU combo. Cannot get the

ACCORDING TO THE TECH AT TOSHIBA: THE UNIT MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE TV BY AN HDMI CABLE FOR THE DVD PART & (ON THE BACK-RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE COMBO) YOU NEED TO CONNECT A SET OF THE RED/WHITE/YELLOW CABLES FROM (VIDEO) "OUT" OF THE COMBO & "IN" TO THE RED/WHITE/YELLOW TV(AV-1) PORTS FOR THE VCR PART TO WORK.

Can you record a dvd from vhs on this system ?

No you cannot - This is a DVD *PLAYER* / VCR combo - which means it features a DVD player & VHS recorder in one - you cannot record onto DVD - You can however watch a DVD while recording your tv program on the VCR.

I hope this answers your question.

If you want to convert your VHS to DVD you will need to purchase a standalone DVD recorder - I personally do not reocmmend the DVD recorder / VCR combos - or you can use a HDD/DVD recorder which stores recordings on a hard drive and later you can burn them on DVD, they allow editing, more flexible recording options, etc
.

Recording (toshiba dvr player se-r0265

Number SE-R0265 is not a Player. It is the model number of the Remote Control for a player.

However, your question is somewhat generic for all Player/Recorders. First you must use good original manufactures DVD media for recording. TY (Taiyo Yuden) is the Toshiba recommended media in many of its manuals. Verbatim and Fuji are also very good. They are more expensive, but very much worth the extra cost in reliability and headaches. Also, some older recorders will have trouble recording/playing back/finalizing newer 8X or 16X faster media. Try to by 4X and slower media if you are having problems, even with the three recommended above.

Second, DVD-R or R/W media has to be 'Finalized' before it can play on other recorders. DVD media do not. Try using DVD media if you continue to have trouble. Also, there are two recording/format types you can choose to record with on your DVDR Recorder, Video and VR, on -R/W media. Video is automatic Video format only on DVD media and do not need to be formatted (I think) before use or finalized after done recording.
If you are still having trouble using -R/W DVDs on other players, Try DVD DVDs in Video Format.

Finally, Toshiba is know for DVD media sensitivity. Many of their recorders have Firmware upgrades. Be sure you have the latest by looking in your manual to find your Firmware Version, then check out Toshiba's support site for any upgrades. But, start with good media, finalizing -R/W media, using Video disc format, then using DVD media, in this order.

Toshiba D-VR610KU recorded disc won't play in my Daewoo DVD5800

What are the compatible types of DVD's that the Daewoo DVD5800 player is supposed to play? Is DVD-R among the compatible types? Try playing the new recordings on a computer that has a DVD drive, or a friend's computer.

What do I use media

Upgrading the firmware is always a good idea. Usually the instructions on the site are clear but they may also have a telephone number to ring to ask for the firmware upgrade on a disk.

Upgrades are there to remove the inevitable bugs that exist when a machine is released onto the market. there may be several upgrades during the life of the recorder.

What kind of dvd's can be used in this dvd player?

That will write on -R or -RW ONLY ... for +R or +RW disks, it can read but not write. You can see this on the recordable media section on this page: http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Sanyo-Sanyo-DVD-DRW1000-Recorder-Hi-Fi-VCR-Combo
