I am trying to replace the broiler ignitor on a Tappan gas range, model 30-3982-00/04 and there is not enough slack in the old ignitor to pull it out and then connect the new ignitor. I need to know how to access the wires and connect the new ignitor. Thanks,

I need to know how to access the wires and connect the new ignitor. Yavier posted a link to another site that shows me what the wires are attached to, but not how to access that area of the oven. Is there an access panel on the back of the oven? Do you have to take the inside walls out?

I am service tech in grants pass oregon. What i do to make it easy is to get heat resistant wire nuts and just cut the wires off the old ignitor and then wire nut the new one in. I do this on a regular basis and it is very easy. There is no harm in doing this. It just makes it easier. It also will make it easier if you have to replace it later on too. Do this and it will fix it up.

GE gas range model JGBS10BEH2BB oven and broiler

you need to check the ignitor even if the ignitor glows it might not be pulling enough amps to call for gas replace the ignitor and this should take care of the problem

I have a series 30 Tappan Gas Range with a broiler pilot light that glows but does not light.

Either a weak ignitor or stuck valve. I tap on the valve with the plastic end of a screwdriver while it is glowing and if it lights the ignitor is weak. If not the valve is stuck and both should be replaced.

Hello, Can't find model/serial number. Older Tappan custom gas stove. Burners work but oven does not. Told it has electric ignition that could be problem. Where to find it, how to remove, where to get...

Serial number labels are usually located in any one of a number of places -

Under the cooktop in one of the corners
Inside the oven door frame (not on the door)
Behind the bottom drawer pullout on the oven, left hand side
Oven back.

If this unit is anything less than 20 years old, there will be a label somewhere.

Reply back you findings and I can give you more information as to how to repair, and we can identify part numbers. You might also try www.repairclinic.com and see if you can drill down through parts when only knowing the manufacturer.

Older Tappan range oven not lighting.

There is no way to light the oven manually. The gas valve will not open until the oven ignitor draws enough current. But replacing the ignitor will fix ya up.
