Pocket PC 2002 connection to network share?

By Phoebe - usenet poster

I'm trying to connect my iPaq 3650 (running PocketPC 2002) to a network
share via a D-Link DCF-650W Wireless Adapter and a D-Link DWL-1000AP Access
Point. I keep getting the error message "Pocket PC Networking: A device with
the same name is already on the network. Tap Start About click OK on that dialog I get the following error message "File Explorer:
Network resources cannot be found or you do not have permission to access
the network. Contact your network administrator."

This is the only device on the network with the name POCKET_PC. Could the
underscore be creating a problem? I get the same results on every network
share available. I've also tried creating a new shares with full control for
everyone to no avail. I can access the Internet just fine through this same
configuration. I'm using DHCP from the same Windows 2000 server to assign
the PocketPC an IP. Any ideas?
I have the same problem.

I tried to set WINS to my broadcast address (in my case 192.168.1.255), but
it didn't help.
My wireless network is setup with WEP 128 and a specific key that I set up
on each device,
so it's probably something else.

For what it's worth, I have exactly the same problem here.
Same hardware (ipaq, D-Link DCF 650W), same symptoms.
The network connection is up (IE works fine), but I can't
open shares (same error message). Also, I can't possibly
out how to ActiveSync through the network...
My network config uses a fixed IP, it it matters...

Try using the broadcast addressin the WINS field and see it that does it.

For example, if you are on 10.0.1.0 subnet and your address was 10.0.1.37,
set WINS to 10.0.1.255

Chris,

Thanks for the reply. I have entered the IP address of my desktop
machine in the Primary WINS and I can sync perfectly. I also tried setting
up a network share on the desktop machine vs. the server and I can't access
that share either. My desktop machine is Windows 2000 Pro and the Server is
Windows 2000 Advanced Server. I get the same message pertaining to the
device name already existing on the network. Any other thoughts?

I still haven't had any luck with the network shares either. I haven't had
the opportunity to try the suggestion from JeffMc though.

Do you have your wireless connection setup as secure or insecure. Mine is
currently set as insecure and I was wondering if that could have something
to do with it.

Let me know if you get it going.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Did you enter your desktop's IP address as the WINS server? Without that it
won't find any hosts.
