Question about Hotpoint WMA11 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Hotpoint WMA11 Can anyone suggest why the machine won't spin? Have just changed the motor brushes as they were very worn. Spun first time after that with no load. Put some wet washing in and that spun too. Did a load through a whole cycle and that didn't spin. Water drains out of machine. Have tried with various loads. I know the machine has a out of balance sensor but it doesn't even work with no load at all. Just agitates.

Thanks. The motor does seem to get power but just agitates for short bursts in either direction.

Where is the balance sensor btw? Is it mounted on the motor?

If the motor is not getting power when it is called for spin. Then check the computer and the timer. Also check the balance sensor

Yes it is mounted on the motor. This will trip if it senses that the washer is off balance and usually when it trips you have to replace Cheap part. Go to

My washing machine won.t spin or turn so could it be the motor as i can,t hear it or would it be the brushes.i,ve got a hotpoint aquarious

I would try the brushes before replacing the motor, or you may have a broken wire. Before attempting any repair unplug the machine from the mains. The brushes on these motors are held in with 2 screws and although it may be a bit awkward they can be changed while the motor is still attached to the machine, but it will mean tilting the appliance so it is resting against something rather than just proping it up . How to change brushes on wma11, mainly how to i get the top off?

There are two screws on the rear of the lid, one near each corner, undo these and lift the rear of the lid a little and pull back to release the front from its clips. ( but first, if I am correct in thinking the motor is underneath on these, tilt back the machine and lean it against a wall or cabinet, and look to see if it's underneath.

Fitting new belt on hotpoint washing machine

check if plug is loose on motor,in the general area where the belt was changed has anything been disturbed, cables i mean?,sounds like the motor brushes may be worn(this would cause motor to stop),they are situated 180degrees apart at one end of motor, they are easy to change, there is a spot at brushes to put a screwdriver in to remove brushes-hope this helps

My washing machine wont rinse and spin, after washing it will beep as if it was finished doing the washing.

A hotpoint WMA30 does not beep on any program as there is no 'beeper' on the pcb. The 'end' led illuminates when it finishes on any program. The most common cause of no rinse or spin is a blocked filter or drain hose. If there is water in the drum when it has finished then this is the probable cause. However if it's empty when finished and has not spun then either the belt has come off or the motor brushes are worn to a point that there is no contact with the motor armature.
