Question about Viking VGRC605-6 Gas Kitchen Range

Open Question

Single stovetop burner won't initiate igniter spark

All components functioning normally, except for ONE stovetop burner that won't initiate the igniter spark. When turning on malfunctioning burner, gas comes on, but that's it. Wiring to spark element seems to be intact. When turning on any other stovetop burner, the malfunctioning one will spark normally. Turning on another burner's control simultaneously with the malfunctioning one will initiate spark and the malfunctioning burner will light normally. I'm told that the housekeeper cleaned the burner pans, etc., yesterday. Thanks!

SOURCE: One stovetop burner does not initiate igniter sparking.

Its most likely the igniter. It might just be dirty, but its easy to install a new one. They are attached by two screws and a single plug. I'd suggest turning the power off to the stove before plugging in a new one.

There is no gas flow to one of the ovens igniters

Gas ovens / stovetop that use gas and not electricity. These work by igniting gas and use actual flame on the the stovetop.

Newest cook top styles, such as the induction or halogen cook tops combine the same style to produce more even heating. Some of these ovens feature thermal limiters or thermostats that regulate the burner system. I offer free advice bcuz God is so good!

GAS OVENS
The spark igniter tip is dirty (can clean it with either a little wire brush or a piece of fine sandpaper).
2) The Pilot flame is too low, and the tip of the igniter is not in the flame good enough. (the flame acts as a circuit when it touches the tip & completes the circuit).
3) The spark module is no good and needs to be replaced.(But 1 & 2 are your best bet).
spark module does not sense the flame when it's on. The spark igniter is also the flame sensor which provides feedback to the spark module.

Make sure the igniter is properly aligned with the burner lighting holes and it is clean. All lighting holes must be clean too. You can enlarge them using a drill bit one size bigger.

If it would not fix the problem, replace the bake burner and the igniter.
There is a small chance for the spark module itself to be bad as well.

The oven safety valve
(also called the gas valve) is the part that ensures that gas is not released until the igniter has reached the correct temperature needed to ignite the gas. While this part can fail, it is uncommon. If the hot surface igniter does not glow you should first verify that you have voltage to the circuit. This is a live voltage check and should be performed by a qualified person. If voltage is lost at the valve terminals then you should verify the continuity of the bi-metal in the valve using a multi-meter.

One front burner ignites but the igniters continue to spark. when all other burners ignite the igniters immediately stop sparking. this problem started right after spilling some water on burner.

I would make sure you have wiped up all the water you spilled, You may need to take the burners off the stovetop and make sure the tiny little pinholes for the gas to come out are fully dry, Than re-assemble everything and try again.

Ran out of propane, Stovetop has ignitors and they seem to be functioning fine. When turning on knobs there is plenty of propane smell but the burners fail to light.

This is normal when you run out of propane. Depending on the length of line you have, there will be a delay in relighting it again because of insert air in the line. My advice to you is to first air out the house til the smell is gone. Then turn on only 1 burner with the igniter sparking and also hold a handheld bbq lighter at the burner to ensure that the gas burner lights when the air is finally purged. This should only take 20-30secs. If it takes longer, air out the room and try again. Use common sense and please be careful!

Hi i have a kemore gas range that the bake ingiter or broil won`t

The igniter in the oven does not spark. It heats up and glows red hot until enough current opens the safety gas valve to the burner. It is not associated with the stovetop burners. Replace the oven igniter itself.

My tappan oven will not always light

for the top burners you have to get to see the ignitors so that you can see the spark, the spark have to spark like a spark plug in the car, it most be on the tip of the ignitor.if not. the spark it's sparking on the wroung spot, wires may be wet or broken. thats one of the reason, the second one, there is small holes fasing the spark ignition on the burners when grease blocks them, they will not light, you can clean them with a paper clip or a safety pin. for the oven, some ovens do not have the spark sistem, they have the ignitor wich it looks like a small bar about 4 inches long by 1 inch some of them are round. thats the part that needs replacing

Stovetop ignitor

Not that this will fix it for sure, sometimes it does. Remove the top of the burner that is causing the problem, and take some sand paper and clean the top of the ignitor and the bottom of the burner itself. That will sometime cure the problem. If not, you could have a bad spark module, or a wiring issue.

Gas stovetop not igniting without matches

If the rest of the surface igniters are working, more than likely your spark module is working fine. (This is normal, by the way) I would suspect that you have a bad spark electrode at the burner in question, a bad burner switch, or bad wiring.

I found several part listings for the model number you posted this question under at repairclinic.com. You will need to provide a more complete model number in order to narrow your search to ensure you get the right part. You can find your model number on a nameplate around the oven door opening, or lower drawer opening (if equipped). Some manufacturers also place this information on the back of the range.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions. Please reply back to this posting if you need further troubleshooting guidance.
